Since 1978, the ELI has taught close to 25,000 international students and professionals from more than 45 countries to master the English language through the use of proven teaching methods and the most up-to-date learning facilities. The FIU Art + Art History Department provides a sanctuary for the development of new visions, ideas and techniques. Studio art majors will have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of disciplines acquiring all the basic skills while exploring a range of new possibilities. Students of Art History will learn the research methodology, theory and criticism necessary for careers in contemporary practice. The interactivity of our Studio Art and Art History programs helps students define their own roles as artists and art historians in today's world. This communal atmosphere encourages artistic camaraderie, engendering trust and a climate conducive to intellectual and aesthetic growth. From the Haitian Student Organization to you, welcome! Haitian Student Organization is a club under the Council of Student Organization and is open to anyone and everyone. The organization was formed with the intent to familiarize the students of the university with the Haitian culture and customs. Over the years, the organization has tried to bring forth this rich culture through different types of events. Each semester, cultural events are prepared where Haitian students display their country's dances, songs, music, and poetry.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences (NWCNHS) offers a professional program of study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The BSN program was approved by the Board of Regents of the State University System in 1982. The program is open to non-RN (basic/generic) and RN students. Upon graduation, Generic BSN, AO (Accelerated Option) BSN, VBSN (Veterans), and FEP BSN (Foreign-Educated Physician) students are eligible to sit for the NCLEX (RN licensing examination) to become registered nurses. The College also offers a track for registered nurses to complete the BSN degree. To accommodate the adult learner, nursing courses in the curriculum may be offered web enhanced or completely online. Graduates of the RN to BSN program are eligible to apply for graduate programs with advanced nursing degrees, such as MSN, DNP, or BSN to PhD.

The Communication Arts Department is a center of excellence in teaching and service. It serves over 4000 undergraduate students each semester in a variety of course offerings in the areas of public speaking, business communication, intercultural communication, conflict management, persuasion, interpersonal communication, argumentation & debate, communication theory and rhetoric. In addition to our diverse course offerings, the nationally recognized FIU Parliamentary Debate Team and FIU's Communication Arts Studio are both housed within the department.
Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, South Florida's only public medical school, is transforming the future of public health and educational opportunity in the region. Created in 2006 amid pressing community health concerns and a projected critical shortage of physicians nationally, the College of Medicine has developed a curriculum that reflects an innovative, 21st century approach to health care and medical education. Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi's sister honor society is Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges. Psi Chi functions as a federation of chapters located at about 1,100 senior colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Ireland and New Zealand. The Central Office is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A Board of Directors, composed of psychologists who are Psi Chi members and are elected by the chapters, guides the affairs of the organization and sets policy with the approval of the chapters. Psi Chi serves two major goals–one immediate and visibly rewarding to the individual member, the other slower and more difficult to accomplish, but offering greater rewards in the long run. The first of these is the Society's obligation to provide academic recognition to its inductees by the mere fact of membership. The second goal is the obligation of each of the Society's local chapters to nurture the spark of that accomplishment by offering a climate congenial to members' creative development. For example, the chapters make active attempts to nourish and stimulate professional growth through programs designed to augment and enhance the regular curriculum and to provide practical experience and fellowship through affiliation with the chapter. In addition, the international organization provides programs to help achieve these goals, including Society and regional conventions held annually in conjunction with the psychological associations, research award competitions, and certificate recognition programs. The Society publishes a quarterly magazine, Eye on Psi Chi, which helps to unite the members, inform them, and recognize their contributions and accomplishments. The quarterly Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research fosters and rewards the scholarly efforts of undergraduate psychology students and provides a valuable learning experience by introducing them to the publishing and review process. Students become members by joining the chapter at the school where they are enrolled. Psi Chi chapters are operated by student officers and faculty advisors. Together they select and induct the members and carry out the goals of the Society. All chapters register their inductees at the Central Office, where membership records are preserved for reference purposes. The total number of memberships registered at the Central Office is now over 500,000 lifetime members. Many of these members have gone on to distinguished careers in psychology.
FIU GoGreen/FIU Office of University Sustainability is an administrative office aimed to reduce FIU's carbon footprint and impact on the natural environment through education, outreach, collaboration, and mitigation projects.
The Professional Master's in Disaster Management has been developed in response to the growing recognition and need for graduate level education in disaster management. The graduate degree will be offered in an 11-month executive format culminating with a disaster field operations course. Tuition includes University fees, books, parking and more.
The National Hurricane Center's Hurricane Specialist Unit issues forecasts and warnings on tropical cyclones, and maintains a continuous watch on areas of disturbed weather that have the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone within the North Atlantic and eastern North Pacific Ocean basins. The NHC's Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch generates analyses and forecasts of weather over the tropical Atlantic and eastern North Pacific Ocean basins year-round. NWS will be using Facebook as a supplemental channel to disseminate environmental information and promote weather awareness activities including outreach and educational efforts.
