The Oakland Medical Group is well established, having had its origins with the sole practice of Dr. Harry Akesson, who began practice in the early 1940's and was joined by Dr. Glenn Malley ten years later. With the addition of two more internists in the late 1960's, a corporation was formed. At that time we moved from 29th Street to a specially designed facility at the present location. For many years we had a satellite office in Montclair. At times we have had as many as seven internists, and are currently staffed with five. Although our staff has changed over the years, we continue to serve our patients from Alameda County and beyond the same way we did in the 1940's. Currently, we are privately owned by physicians and we accept most major commercial insurance plans as well as Medicare. But, we do not accept patients with Medi-Cal insurance. We, as primary care physicians, treat major diseases including hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol etc. We also treat mild ailments including respiratory issues, mild pain issues or simple injuries. For complicated cases, we refer our patients to local specialists. Most of our doctors go to Alta Bates Summit Hospital at Oakland. For those who don't, a hospitalist will see you while you're in the hospital and you follow up with your regular doctor after you're discharged from the hospital. There is always a doctor available on-call during off- hours or holidays for emergencies. We also emphasize disease prevention and we administer vaccines in our office such as flu shot or tetanus etc. All you need is to ask what we carry. We also have our own labs where you can get basic blood tests done in-house. For other unusual blood tests, we either send them out or you can go to a nearby lab to have them done. As technology advanced, we also adapted electronic health record (EHR). You can obtain a copy of your labs or imaging report if you prefer once they are scanned into the system. Unfortunately, we do not have email in the EHR as a route of communication like Kaiser does. All messages will be communicated to you via either mail or phone calls provided by your regular physician in the office. Lastly, as a perk, we have free parking in the back of the office, although it's first come first serve. Free street parking is also available on 28th Street. We strive to serve you in the community and deliver the best care in the area.
The primary mission of O.A.S.I.S. is to provide low-cost, subsidized medical care, clinical research studies, and to develop and provide educational materials for medically marginalized former or current drug and alcohol users. We serve a multi-ethnic community, approximately 1/3 of whom are medically uninsured or underinsured and over 50% of whom have substance abuse histories — including alcohol abuse — of greater than 20 years duration. Our hepatitis C treatment services are available to all persons, regardless of how they contracted hepatitis C.
NorCal Health Care has been operating since 2004. The first MD to own and operate NorCal was Dr. Hanny Assad. In 2009 Dr Phillip Denny took over the practice and soon after that in 2010 Dr Michael Caplan, who is now the MD here took over the practice. Dr Caplan moved the practice just 4 blocks away from the old location to the corner of 19th and Broadway in the heart of Oaksterdams headquarters.
Dr. Lauren Knobel and Dr. Eleanor Dunn are pleased to invite you and your pets to visit us at The Grand Lake Veterinary Hospital! We are excited to see our old friends and meet new ones. Our mission is to enhance the human animal bond by providing owners with the tools to make the most informed decision regarding caring, compassionate, healthcare throughout all stages of our pets lives as well as our own. We are a family of dedicated, educated, compassionate caregivers for all phases of your pet's life, created through listening, educating, and skillfully combining state of the art medicine with understanding. We recognize that our patients are family members, and treat them as such, with dignity and respect. We seek to foster a caring relationship between our staff and our clients, because in doing so, our clients and patients become a part of the Grand Lake Veterinary Hospital family too. We feel it is a privilege to provide for you and your pet's healthcare needs.
The Love Offering Clinic Supervised by volunteer faculty and organized by student group #ACCHS4BlackLivesMatter, the clinic was piloted in February 2015. Ear acupuncture, tai chi, qi gong, and meditation will be available to participants. The Love Offering Clinic is donation based, walk-in and trans/LGBT/queer friendly. The I - 慈 Love Offering Clinic will repeat on the last Sunday of every month (except August and December). Trauma, stress and frustration impact the body; acupuncture can help coax it back to homeostasis and health. Auricular (ear) acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a range of conditions, including: musculoskeletal pain, stress relief, detox, headaches and allergies. #ACCHS4BlackLivesMatter After the Ferguson verdict, Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences student, Namonyah Soipon, called for a school-wide meeting. This meeting resulted in the launch of the first pilot clinic events in February 2015 - by a multiracial group of students. The clinic is intended as an act of solidarity with protestors around the world, as Black lives should be valued, loved and defended from harm in this nation and on this planet. #ACCHS4BlackLivesMatter will be continuing to provide an ongoing clinic for all who need care. #ACCHS4BlackLivesMatter affirms that injustice must be named and that the modern health care model must be transformed. An empowered, healed world is expected and anticipated. The Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences ACCHS and its ongoing, low-cost, student acupuncture clinic has served the community of Oakland for over 31 years. It is the third-oldest Traditional Chinese Medicine school in the United States. History of Acupuncture and Social Justice in the US: The detox program at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York, is a clear example of acupuncture as social justice. It was founded in 1970 by political activists: the Black Panthers, the Young Lords and White Lightning. Dr. Mutulu Shakur (Assata Shakur's brother) was an acupuncturist; he led the Lincoln Hospital detox program from 1971-1978. * The hashtag #ACCHS4BlackLivesMatter is used with the permission of the original creators of the #BlackLivesMatter movement (Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Marie Cullors-Brignac).
