Located on the newly expanded campus of John Jay College 59th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in the heart of midtown Manhattan, the Arts Center at John Jay is dedicated to presenting compelling exhibitions, lectures, and performances. The Galleries and performance and events space host multiple shows and events each year, addressing themes of social justice and cultural diversity through aesthetic and intellectual innovation and exchange. The Arts Center presents works by world renowned and emerging artists in a variety of media. Programs foster interdisciplinary discourse within the College and the New York community through public programming, links to coursework, and by providing access to its programs to area schools and to the broader public. The goal of the Arts Center at John Jay is to provide a forum for artistic and intellectual exchange and expression, representing a wide range of ideas and promoting critical thinking and broad participation, reflective of today's globalized world. The music and visual arts programs of The Arts Center are administered under the supervision of the Art and Music Department of John Jay College, a 501c.3 non-profit organization. Hasbara Fellowships is the largest and most comprehensive Israel education and activism program for North American university students. Founded in 2001, Hasbara Fellowships was the first formal program for students battling overwhelming anti-Israel propaganda on their campuses in the wake of the second Palestinian intifada. Fifteen years later, Hasbara Fellowships remains the largest program of this type. Hasbara Fellowships uniquely takes hundreds of students to Israel on a #HasbaraIsrael program for 16-days of pro-Israel education.
The New York Film Festival's Projections section presents an international selection of film and video work that expands upon notions of what the moving image can do and be. Drawing on a broad range of innovative modes and techniques, including experimental narratives, avant-garde poetics, crossovers into documentary and ethnographic realms, and contemporary art practices, Projections brings together a diverse offering of short, medium, and feature-length work by some of today’s most vital and groundbreaking visual artists.
Alumni & Friends (A&F) strives to continue and enhance world-class arts education opportunities for all students at LaGuardia High School by providing awards, scholarships and funds to the school and its students so that regardless of family income, they can successfully pursue their talents. In the 2011-2012 school year alone, A&F’s $5 million endowment provided more than $500,000 to the school and its students in awards, studio support and equipment. Generous donors have made this possible and it is the goal of A&F to grow this endowment further to provide even more assistance, particularly as the school faces further budget cuts and its needs are greater than ever. A&F serves as a resource for alumni to inform them of activities and events in the school, to help them keep in touch with each other and to invite them to reunions.
LSNC programs are endlessly evolving to better suit the changing social, educational, recreational and cultural needs of the individuals and families who utilize and enjoy the benefits of the center. The majority of our community members live in proximity to LNSC – long-term residents of the Amsterdam Houses. Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center was established as a part of the settlement house movement in 1947. Originating in the UK, but brought to the US by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Jane Addams, the 19th century movement for social reform has left an indelible mark on New York City. The settlement houses of today enhance our neighborhoods, uptown and downtown, east and west and connect all by the common thread of community service. LSNC is a mainstay in the upper west side community that surrounds it. By providing the local residents with a reliable place to meet their individual needs, LSNC fosters a supportive environment in which community members become family. LSNC is housed within the Amsterdam Addition building at 250 West 65th Street, a two-floor space leased from the New York City Housing Authority. Program participants include those residing on the 25 upper floors of the Amsterdam Addition, as well as the 13 additional buildings that form the Amsterdam Houses in the surrounding area between 61st—65th Streets. Mabel Barrett Fitzgerald Daycare Center Our program provides a complete, developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of every child by providing a warm and nurturing atmosphere in which children and their parents feel part of an extended family focused on their child’s growth and development. Led by our highly qualified and enthusiastic staff, LSNC conducts a culturally rich early education program for 69 children aged 24 months – 4 years and 11 months old. Drawing upon decades of experience, our dedicated staff implements a creative and educational program designed to enhance development while attending to the individual needs of each child. Our structured daily routine includes classroom programs in music, visual arts, math, science and hygiene; as well as a health conscious meal program consisting of breakfast, lunch and a snack. We introduce children to reading and writing preparatory activities involving recognition of letters and words. Fine motor skills are developed through daily art and play including games, puzzles, and painting activities. With their children busy acquiring an important blueprint for future learning, parents are free to focus on professional pursuits. Youth Services Program LSNC operates two programs for youth aged 5 to 12 years old. Our Afterschool Program runs throughout the school year, September to June. Additionally, we offer a seven-week Summer Camp through July and August. Our curriculum focuses on four key elements: reading, arts, technology and athletics. This approach allows our students to explore creativity in music, drama, and visual arts while building and attaining new computer skills, which leads to academic growth. We further our students desire to achieve by periodically inviting guest educators who cover a variety of topics, from political elections and financial literacy to career paths and entrepreneurship. With two Group Leaders for each classroom, students in our Afterschool Program receive the attention and focus needed to ensure their involvement in the program is a positive experience for every child. We are fortunate to be surrounded by renowned cultural and educational institutions, and building new partnerships with the Lincoln Square community has been a high priority. Our new partnership with the New York Institute of Technology adds a key element of the Afterschool Program, laying a foundation that cements the importance of skills now so useful in everyday life. The opportunity to include technology in our program will teach children at a very young age the importance of technology and the multitude of ways that it influences our lives. Highlighting the importance of staying healthy and active, athletics remains one of the central components of our Afterschool Program. Students participate in recreational activities, including basketball and other team sports in our newly refurbished gym. We continue to partner with Super Soccer Stars, an organization that demonstrates the importance of teamwork and confidence building while playing soccer. Senior Services Program Our comprehensive Senior Services Program for adults over the age of sixty seeks to help older adults to maintain independence, stability, and social connectedness to their communities. By providing access to necessary services that address the physical and mental health, as well as the social needs of our seniors, LSNC has become an established resource to the senior community that relies upon it. The program activities at LSNC are updated monthly – from yoga to painting classes, we strive to bring something to the program for every interest. Lunch is served five days a week at the Center, providing our community members with the opportunity to socialize with their friends over an affordable meal. Exercise classes and ballroom dancing regularly appear on the monthly agenda and our new partnership with the Concert Artists Guild brings a lunchtime concert series. Bilingual (Spanish/English) staff provides on-site and in-home services for those who are unable to make office visits. LSNC social workers assist with obtaining and maintaining benefits including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, food stamps and public assistance by providing information and referrals to medical, psychiatric, legal, vocational and home care services. Our senior services program provides a nurturing space where our senior community members can dine together, enjoy activities with one another, give and receive encouragement and, with the support and assistance of the LSNC staff, help one another to live healthy, happy lives.

Other recent initiatives include the New York Philharmonic Global Academy, collaborations with partners worldwide offering training of pre-professional orchestral musicians, often alongside performance residencies. Renowned around the world, having appeared in 432 cities in 63 countries, America’s oldest symphony orchestra has been a media pioneer, releasing more than 2,000 recordings since 1917 and today sharing live performances through downloads and online. Alan Gilbert became Music Director in 2009, succeeding 20th-century musical giants including Bernstein, Toscanini, and Mahler.
To raise awareness and fund research for pediatric cancer. Taylor had a dream. She dreamed that ordinary people would make a difference through private efforts. She dreamed that someday no child would ever have to face CANCER. Conquering Kidz Cancer / tay-bandz is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for pediatric cancer. tay-bandz was founded by Taylor Matthews who, at age 11, was diagnosed with cancer. Taylor always believed that individuals could make a difference through private efforts. Her dearest hope was that “someday no child would ever have to face cancer.” Conquering Kidz Cancer is a “kids helping kids” organization driven by community based efforts. The Federal government provides minimal funding for children’s cancer. Children are not politically powerful, don’t pay taxes and don’t march on the lawn of the White House. If a difference is to be made in the lives of these children, it will be made by those who dedicate themselves to speaking for them. Without public outcry, these children don’t stand a chance. Taylor knew this first hand and was determined to change it. The Federal government provides minimal funding for children's cancer. Children don't vote, are not politically powerful and don't pay taxes. The kids need a champion. Please help. 1. There is almost no federal funding for pediatric cancer research and precious little private philanthropy. 2. More education is needed to inform parents and children of treatment options.
Arts education has been a Lincoln Center priority since its founding, and the establishment of Lincoln Center Institute in 1975 made Lincoln Center a leader in integrating the arts into school curricula and training teachers to use the arts as a teaching tool. Inspired by a campus redevelopment effort that has succeeded in drawing broader audiences to Lincoln Center’s reimagined physical spaces, Lincoln Center recognized that rethinking and revitalizing its work in arts education would enhance its impact and expand its reach to underserved communities. In September 2012, Lincoln Center welcomed Russell Granet as the Institute’s new Executive Director. A renowned advocate for arts education and a veritable leader in the field, Mr. Granet organized a major planning effort to determine the future of Lincoln Center’s educational programming that included retreats for Lincoln Center staff and Institute Board members; teaching artist town hall sessions; school visits; and meetings with staff, Board and educators. This process led to a new vision and strategic plan for bringing Lincoln Center educational offerings together as the Lincoln Center Education (LCE) family of programs. Operating under the direction of Mr. Russell Granet, Lincoln Center Education encompasses all the institution’s educational activities in schools and in the community. LCE is also launching a variety of new and important projects for bringing the arts to underserved populations and for making advancements in the field of arts education that will help LCE to better serve its audiences and to develop strategies that can be shared nationally and internationally.
