South Texas College of Law Houston, formerly South Texas College of Law, is a private American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS). Located in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States it was founded in 1923—the oldest law school in Houston and the third-oldest in Texas.South Texas College of Law Houston has a faculty of 59 full-time professors and 40 adjunct professors.US News consistently ranks the South Texas trial advocacy program in the top ten; in 2010, South Texas advocacy was ranked third in the country by U.S. News in Trial Advocacy. South Texas College of Law Houston holds over 121 National and International Advocacy Championships, more than any other law school in the nation, with the second most titles held by a law school with less than 40 National Championships.According to South Texas' 2013 ABA-required disclosures, 61.2% of the Class of 2013 obtained full-time, long-term, JD-required employment nine months after graduation.
This program is designed to provide a differential competitive advantage. Corporations are viewed as customers. Their input has been used to develop corresponding programs that align with corporate needs. There are two winners in this process: the working professionals who pursue the program, and the companies who hire UHD graduates.
Social Work is an applied field, offering a scientifically-grounded, value-based approach to human services. Social workers work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, mental health, juvenile justice, and perform a variety of tasks such as case management, client advocacy, and counseling. The profession of social work extends back to the late 19th Century, when various individuals and groups began applying a unique perspective and orientation to address the social problems of the time. While Mary Richmond and Jane Addams, two of the Founding Mothers of Social Work, had different approaches, each saw the importance of the interplay between individuals and their environment for understanding and ameliorating individually-felt social problems. This foundation of the person-in-environment perspective establishes the special contribution that social work and social workers have in our society. It is an exciting field, to study, to develop, and to practice.

The Department of Arts and Humanities at UHD is represented through multiple disciplines, aiming to support and stimulate ethnic and cultural diversity through our faculty and students, to create and reflect our commitment to the truest sense of the liberal arts. The critical, historical, and global perspective we offer in the study of languages, rhetoric, and the visual and performing arts is enhanced by courses that offer hands-on applications, including those that incorporate new technologies. Such inclusion further broadens the scope of the liberal arts tradition by taking advantage of contemporary advances to build on past wisdom while anticipating future innovations. The faculty and staff of the Department of Arts and Humanities aim at developing a student's potential for appreciation of life. The department's course offerings support all degree programs at UHD and include classes in art and art history, communication studies, drama and drama history, humanities, foreign languages including French and Spanish, and music and music history. Students who wish to pursue a general liberal course of studies may enroll in the program leading to either the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Humanities or the Bachelor of Sciences with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies (under the College of Humanities and Social Sciences). Students seeking specialized humanities training may pursue the Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Communication Studies or Bachelor of Arts with Major in Spanish, or the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts. Minors are also available in Art, Arts Administration, Drama, Spanish and Communication Studies.

Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society celebrates the academic achievement of university freshmen and promotes their continued growth as scholars, leaders and citizens. Membership is offered to full time, first-time-in-college students earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the conclusion of their first long semester. The University of Houston-Downtown's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta is one of the three interdisciplinary honor societies affiliated with the University Honors Program. The UHD chapter earned its first major award "The Order of the Torch" only six months after it was chartered making it one of the top five ALD chapters in the nation. Alpha Lambda Delta is the most prestigious honor society that freshmen can be invited to join at UHD. Lifetime membership costs $25 (paid to the national headquarters) and the chapter assesses local dues of $10 per year. The UHD Advising Team strives to create an atmosphere of open communication, mutual respect, trust, congeniality, and caring where both students and advisors are held responsible for academic success. Advising activities throughout the semester address educational needs while developing greater self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-direction.
The Department of Urban Education began its Master of Arts in Teaching Program in the Summer of 2001. This program consists of 39 hours and may be completed in two years. Curriculum within the program is focused on education and inquiry in urban school sites. Students in the Masters of Arts in Teaching Program have the option of conducting and writing about a research study, writing a position paper, or writing a grant as a final project in the program.
There are two prominent forces at work in the TTLC: the Help Desk and Technology Learning Services (TLS). The Help Desk is a sharp, friendly group of user support specialists working ‘round the clock to come to your rescue. Technology Learning Services pulls specialized talent from every corner of technology: software training, hardware training, Blackboard Vista online course support, multimedia services, and instructional television support.
The mission of The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at University of Houston Downtown is to enhance the overall quality of the student body by providing financial assistance and service to qualified students who lack the financial resources to attend UHD. UHD’s Department of English will offer--beginning this fall--a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Concentration in CREATIVE WRITING. We are thrilled to announce this new degree! The Department of English will continue to offer the Creative Writing Minor which includes 18 hours of course work selected from a sequence of courses in creative writing, literary translation, literary genres, a literary magazine production course, as well as selected writing and foreign language courses offered by the Department of Arts & Humanities. The minor is intended to foster a culture of writing across curricula in the humanities, arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and business in all degree granting colleges within the University.
