The First Church of Christ, Scientist, also known as The Mother Church, is the administrative headquarters and the mother church of the Church of Christ, Scientist, also known as the Christian Science church. Christian Science was founded in the 19th century in Lynn, Massachusetts, by Mary Baker Eddy with the publication of her book, Science and Health (1875).The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is located in the 14.5-acre Christian Science Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The center is owned by the church and contains the Original Mother Church (1894), Mother Church Extension (1906), Christian Science Publishing House, Mary Baker Eddy Library, the Administration Building, Colonnade Building, and Reflection Hall. There is also a reflecting pool and fountain.In accordance with the Manual of The Mother Church, the Mother Church is the only Christian Science church to use the definite article ("the) in its title. Branch churches are named "First Church of Christ, Scientist," "Second Church of Christ, Scientist," and so on, followed by the name of the city, in the order in which they were built in that city (for example, Seventeenth Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago).

For nearly 200 years, the UU Urban Ministry has been working side-by-side with Boston's urban communities to create opportunities and instill hope for a brighter future. We concentrate our efforts primarily in out-of-school-time programming for at-risk youth and shelter for those fleeing domestic violence. We also operate a program focused on providing support for men in transition, including those involved with the criminal justice system. Our ministry is rooted in direct experience and service with those in Boston who are struggling for better lives. We seek to build bridges of understanding and mutuality so that people in various economic circumstances can work together to effect change. Our goal is to create a human community that is peaceful and just.

Program Services: Family Service Bureau- Emergency Assistance Servicing the entire metro Boston area Open Monday - Friday from 8:30 - 4:00 pm. Please call to schedule an appointment. A wide variety of assistance is offered to individuals and families in need and is available on an as-needed basis. Each person is given individual attention during the process of intake, evaluation, and case management. After an assessment of need, family qualifications and program requirements, assistance may be given in areas such as: utility assistance through the Good Neighbor Energy Fund clothing assistance food/grocery store vouchers rental/mortgage assistance counseling referrals and case management When appropriate, referrals are given to other agencies that may better serve the client's needs (such as food stamps, employment resources, and housing services). Holiday Assistance - Seasonal Special efforts are made to assist individuals and families during the Holiday season with food baskets, toys, and winter clothing. Gymnasium Open Monday - Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Karate Classes Offered on Tuesdays from 6pm- 7:30pm. Please call for details. Youth Programs After-school programs Offered Monday - Friday, 2:30 - 6:00 pm. Snacks are served. All recreational activities are open after homework is completed. A variety of activities are featured to keep the after-school program interesting and enjoyable for kids. In addition to homework and tutorial assistance, we offer a rotating schedule of computer center activities, Bible study, Karate, gym free play, billiard games, basketball, and music and singing classes. Sunbeams Offered Wednesday afternoons (6:00pm-7:00pm). For girls ages 6 - 11. Recreational and educational program teaching a wide assortment of skills with particular focus on leadership and service (similar to the Girl Scouts of America's Brownies). Girl Guards Offered Tuesday afternoons. For girls ages 12 - 17. Recreational and educational program teaching a wide assortment of skills with particular focus on leadership and service (similar to the Girl Scouts of America). Camp Wonderland Camperships - Seasonal Program Each summer, we provide children with an opportunity to camp and experience a week filled with fun programs at our Camp Wonderland in Sharon, Mass. Camp Wonderland is a fully-licensed and accredited camp that offers affordable, one-week vacations to children whose families may otherwise not be able to send their child to camp. We give kids a chance to take a summer vacation where they can experience nature, make new friends, and develop new talents all in a safe and supportive environment. Activities include pontoon boat rides, swimming in the lake, arts & crafts, music education, sporting activities, games, and Bible study. Price is based on the size of the child's family and their income, and in cases of extreme hardship, may be subsidized.

Each week the predominantly Spanish-speaking CLJ provides special ministry to those who are primarily English-speaking. This includes a 9:00 AM Sunday service, and a 7:00 PM Wednesday prayer meeting.

The Society for Islamic Brotherhood (S.I.B.), the organization that sponsors the Mosque for the Praising of Allah, was formed in the 1950s. In 1970 the S.I.B. rented 724 Shawmut Avenue and later purchased the building. The Masjidun Li Hamdi Allah is the oldest continuously operating mosque in Boston. From 1980-1983 the mosque supported a full-time Islamic primary school (Al-Azhar). Description The masjid (mosque) undergone major renovations to make the building compliant with government safety standards. The following description is accurate as of August 2007. On the first floor of the mosque there is a small store which sells Islamic books and prayer robes. To the left of the store, leading to the men's prayer space, is the newly constructed men's wudu station, which is a cleansing area where men perform their required partial ablution prior to beginning prayer. Upon entering the mosque one immediately ascends the stairs to the second floor where the women's prayer space and the office are located. In the women's prayer room there is a shoe rack, bathroom and the office for the Islamic Multi-Service Organization (IMSO). On the third floor is the men's prayer space. The men's space is not large enough to accommodate the 150-200 men who attend Friday prayer services so there is a platform in the parking lot adjacent to the building for overflow. Activities and Schedule The mosque holds Jum'ah prayers on Fridays at 1:15 PM. The mosque hosts weekly Sisters and Brothers Islamic Studies Classes with themes that change each season. Class topics have included purification and developing good Muslim character as well as lessons in Arabic and the fundamentals of the Muslim faith. In 1995 the Masjid started the Islamic Multi-Service Organization to address the social service needs of the Muslim community. IMSO supports a food pantry that provides over 200 individuals and families with food each month., provides counseling and employment referrals, and sponsors a youth mentoring program. IMSO is beginning an Elder Social Day Program to reach underserved members of the Muslim community. The program will offer recreational and social activities for persons ages 60 and over. Every year the mosque holds an annual fundraising dinner with a guest speaker. In 2007, for instance, the theme of the event was: "The Shape of Things to Come: Islamic Vision for Tomorrow's America," and included keynote speaker Imam Siraj Wahhaj of Masjid Taqwa in New York.
At the beginning of the 20th century there was a large exodus of people from the former British West Indian Islands to the USA, some of them settled in Boston and Cambridge. Their religious affiliation was predominantly Anglican. The first meeting began in May 1910 and by 1913 the congregation was organized as a Mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. In July 1921, the lot on which the church now stands was purchased and the church building was dedicated and opened for worship on Sunday February 10, 1924. The founders of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church appropriately named the church after one of the first African Christian Martyrs, Thasuis Caecilianus Cyprianus. Also, one of the unique features of St. Cyprian's is that it has departed from the traditional practice of using biblical personalities and early Christian Saints in its stained glass windows and has instead substituted them with those whom have made significant contributions to liberation and empowerment of people. For example, Marcus Garvey, James Forten, MLK, Jr., Sojourner Truth, Absalom Jones, Prince Hall, Frederick Douglass, and many more.

Boston House of Sufism, or Boston khaniqah (Persian word for ‘house’), was organized and opened in 1978 in a beautiful South End brownstone that was built before the American Civil War. It is located at 84 Pembroke Street, Boston. We gather for meditation every Thursday and Sunday, from 6 pm to 8 pm. If you would like to participate in a meditation, please call or email to make an appointment. We also host a free 'tea' which is open to the public on the first Sunday of the month, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Please visit our Events page for more information. What's up? So, you're Catholic (or you're at least interested enough to come to this page) and you're wondering what it is that we have going on here. Well, here's a short list: Every Wednesday @ 7:30 pm we have our weekly meeting called NULife. We have Mass at the Fenway Center every Sunday at 12:30 pm. Confession is available after ever Sunday Mass, and for 1 hour before NULife on Wednesdays at the Catholic Center (68 St. Stephen St.) We host and facilitate many social events, service opportunities and events for both men and women.
