Old Main is an academic building on the campus of Wayne State University. It is located at 4841 Cass Avenue in Midtown Detroit, Michigan, on Wayne's main campus.LocationOld Main is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Cass and Warren Ave. in the busy Midtown area of Detroit. Old Main is situated at the southern end of the main campus of Wayne State University, across Warren from the Science Building and just north of the college's Hilberry Theater. It stands approximately 1.5 miles north of downtown Detroit, one block west of the city's main street, Woodward Avenue, and within less than a mile of three of Detroit's major freeways, the Chrysler (I-75), the Lodge (M-10), and the Ford (I-94).HistoryThe building now known as Old Main was originally built as Detroit's Central High School. Construction of the building began on December 13, 1894. It was built over a three-year period out of brick and limestone quarried from the land directly in front of it. The structure was designed by architects Malcomson & Higginbotham and contained 103 classrooms, laboratories, offices, and space for 2,000 students. The building cost $573,345.13, most of which was paid for by state appropriations and an emergency building fund campaign.
The Maccabees Building is a historic building located at 5057 Woodward Avenue in Midtown Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. and is currently owned by Wayne State University.The building consists of a five-story base which covers the entire site. The nine-story spine sits above this rising to a height of 197ft with ten-story wings buttressing each corner. The building's exterior resembles the letter "H" with this clearly evident on the fourth through tenth story floorplans.The high-rise truss tower features Art Deco and Romanesque details which include large arched windows on the ground and second level with rose windows accenting the second floor. Windows on the tenth and fourteenth floor are arched with decorative spandrel panels. The exterior is faced with limestone. The entrance is recessed in a three-story barrel vault arch which continues into the building to form the lobby ceiling.The central section is topped by a radio broadcast tower. This was originally the broadcast tower for WXYZ radio, and television, until the station moved to new facilities in 1959. WGPR radio now occupies transmission facilities on the tower, along with some data transmission equipment for Wayne State University. The height above ground to the tip of the antenna is 465.9ft.
The University Tower Apartments, the newest apartment building on campus, opened in 1995. This modern 11-story complex is located one block south of Forest Ave at the southern edge of main campus and just west of the School of Medicine. University Tower Apartments offers one, two and three bedroom units. Students who wish to live in University Towermust be at least 21 or junior standing.

The Wayne State University School of Medicine currently hosts an enrollment of more than 1,000 medical students in undergraduate medical education, master’s degree, Ph.D., and M.D.-Ph.D. programs and courses encompass 14 areas of basic science. WSUSOM traces its roots through four predecessor institutions since its founding in 1868. According to U.S. News ranking, the school ranks 179d in its Research activities, and 85th in primary care.The Detroit College of Medicine was founded in 1868 in a building on Woodward Avenue. The Michigan College of Medicine was incorporated in 1879 and offered classes in the former Hotel Hesse at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue, Madison Avenue and St. Antoine Street. In 1885, the two schools merged to form the Detroit College of Medicine and occupied the former Michigan College of Medicine building. The college was reorganized and refinanced as the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery in 1913, and five-years later, came under control of the Detroit Board of Education. In 1933, the Board of Education joined the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery with the colleges of Liberal Arts, Education, Engineering, Pharmacy, and the Graduate School to form an institution of higher education called the Colleges of the City of Detroit. This was renamed Wayne University in 1934 and became a state-chartered institution, Wayne State University, in 1956. The Department of Music cultivates music as a contemporary and global art, grounded in a long historical tradition, by combining higher education with professional training and experience for its undergraduate and graduate/professional students. The Department offers students of music opportunities to learn, grow, and develop their skills and disciplines in an urban cultural setting. With close proximity to Detroit's cultural center, students have access to the resources of such premiere institutions as the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Public Library, the Detroit Opera House, and Orchestra Hall. The long historical relationship between the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Department allows students to study and coach with exceptional guest artists and resident artist-faculty who are specialists in all musical styles and media. Building on the strengths of its geographic and cultural setting, the Department maintains public access to its performances and degree programs, offers high-level professional and academic standards and unique creative and scholarly opportunities appropriate to a large research university, and cultivates a deep aesthetic understanding of music in our students and the larger urban arts community.
Since 2005 Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit (GLBD) has participated in the national Bioneers conference, featuring the national plenary speakers as well as local workshop presenters, exhibitors and vendors. GLBD promotes collaboration and networking among SE Michigan individuals and organizations working on sustainability and eco-justice issues. Beside the annual October conference GLBD offers additional programs and/or collaborates with others in their programming efforts.
By retaining international students, GTRI is a catalyst to lessening the skills gap in the STEM fields especially, and cultivating a climate in which Michigan businesses can be competitive in the new economy. GTRI collaborates with the Governor's office, the Office for New Americans, Global Detroit, over 30 Michigan Universities, the University Research Corridor (URC), the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Michigan's economic development agencies, ethnic chambers, professional organizations, and employers throughout the state. GTRI is funded by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the New Economy Initiative (NEI), and is housed in partnership with Prima Civitas. GTRI was originally formed as a result of the Global Detroit Study about the impact of immigrant talent on the region’s economy. Studies have shown that immigrants disproportionately contribute to economic growth, employment, and wage gains. In addition, more than 50% of PhDs and sometimes as much as 40% of master’s degrees in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) are awarded each year in the U.S. to international students. Since IT and engineering are the fastest growing industries, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find qualified candidates for high level tech positions if international students are not considered as part of an employer’s applicant pool. GTRI provides international students and local employers with training and resources on relevant immigration regulations, information on finding a job in Michigan, and help with cross-cultural issues that both employers and international applicants may experience during the hiring process.
We are a DOSO Student Organization at Wayne State University committed to providing lectures, workshops, and fun meetings to discover all about healthy living and develop a possible training schedule. Meetings are once a week with an additional but not required workshop after the meeting in which members may participate in yoga or a group walk around Midtown. REQUIREMENTS: -All members must be registered students at Wayne State University. -All members must be enrolled in a minimum of 10 credit hours. -All members must maintain a 2.5 GPA -Members must attend all meetings unless otherwise excused
UPTF members – part-time faculty members teaching for Wayne State University - live and work within approximately a 100 mile radius of the main Wayne State University campus in Detroit. Members live in over 100 cities, towns and villages within this geographic area, as well as in cities beyond this, even outside of Michigan.
The Cass Technical High School Marching Band was established in 1990 by Ms. Sharon Allen. Ms Allen laid the foundation, culture and discipline that is still a staple in the band today. The band is under the current Direction of CTMB Alum, Mr. Bryant McGee. The Cass Technical High School Marching Band is not only known throughout Michigan but throughout the US. The members of the band must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5 and for section leaders the minimum GPA is a 3.0. All instrumentalists are required to take a band course during the school year and are strongly encouraged to participate in M.S.B.O.A. State Festivals. The C.T.M.B. is known for providing entertaining shows and jaw dropping action for limitless amounts of viewers.

Inside|Out aims to connect with audiences outside the museum walls in places where they live, work and play. ESFB is an organization that consists of the elected organization officers, a representative from each student organization in the College of Engineering, the College of Engineering Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, in addition to other faculty and advisors. Each week ESFB meets with updates on upcoming College of Engineering events, discuss problems or concerns students and faculty may have, collaborate on improvements within the College of Engineering, and share information between student organizations and faculty. In order to best serve the student body of the Wayne State University College of Engineering, we need the ideas and feedback from students. Please feel free to attend a meeting at any time and aid us in our efforts to improve the student experience.
The RAIZ UP is a hip-hop collective based in Southwest Detroit. Taking hip-hop back to its “roots,” we started gathering outdoors at Clark Park this past summer, with open mic/freestyle cyphers; beatmaking, graffiti and b-boy sessions; and dialogues. We believe hip-hop has the potential to help build a better community through artistic creation, participatory education, and collective action. Our initial goal is to provide an open space for everyone to practice, enjoy and/or learn about the different elements of hip-hop culture. We recognize that all those who love and appreciate hip-hop have something to contribute and are welcomed. Understanding that hip-hop often plays an active role in raising awareness and fighting for social change, we also wish to encourage each other to critically explore the social issues that affect us as a community. We will be organizing a series of upcoming activities: workshops, film screenings/discussions and live hip-hop shows. They write their Twitter handle and the hashtag #FAFDET as well as "Facebook: Free Art Friday Detroit" on the back of the piece. They may even include a note offering more instructions. The artist posts a photo clue of the drop spot to the FAFDET Facebook page and tweets the same clue with hashtag #FAFDET. 5. Anyone who finds it is free to take the artwork home. We just ask that they tweet or post a photo to this page letting us know it has found a good home.
