In June of 1997, we pulled the first loaves of bread out of our newly installed hearthstone oven in a small, converted storefront in the Cass Corridor of Detroit: Avalon International Breads was born. When Avalon began, our greatest aspiration was to become an inspiration to others. Now, our customers, our employees and the community are inspiring us as we find new ways of fulfilling Avalon’s mission: Eat Well. Do Good. Avalon has grown as the Hearth and Soul of Detroit into a new production facility, the Avalon Bakehouse on Bellevue in Detroit. Our Confections are made from scratch daily using only all natural ingredients. We purchase 75% of our fruit products from the local Michigan farmers market located in the Eastern Market District in Midtown Detroit. CGK's caramel contain no artificial flavoring, preservative, and or trans fats. Our caramel is also Gluten Free. Our Apples are dipped-by hand-in our creamy, buttery, smooth caramel cooked the same day. Using only the top quality all-natural ingredients-butter, sugar, cream, and a couple of family secrets, vanilla beans-the caramel is prepared in copper pots in small batches. Cooking the caramel in small batches allows us to better observer the quality and consistency of the caramel, guaranteeing that each layer is up to the soft and creamy standards that make our caramel so EXCEPTIONAL. ~ Registered with The State of Michigan, ServSafe Certified ~

The Greater Penobscot Building, commonly known as the Penobscot Building, is a Class-A office tower in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The 1928 Art Deco building is located in the heart of the Detroit Financial District. The Penobscot is a hub for the city's wireless Internet zone and fiber-optic network.HeightUpon completion, the Penobscot Building was the eighth-tallest building in the world, the fourth-tallest in America and the tallest outside of New York and Chicago. Rising 566ft, the 47-story Penobscot was the tallest building in Michigan from its completion in 1928 until construction of the Renaissance Center hotel tower in 1977. One Detroit Center surpassed the Penobscot as the tallest office building in Detroit upon its completion in 1993. The framing elevation drawing of this building shows a height of 562.166ft to the highest roof, approximately 565.75ft to the parapet wall around the roof, and 654.166ft to the top of the warning beacon atop the antenna.The Penobscot has 45 above-ground floors and two basement levels, for a total floor count of 47. Although the Penobscot Building has more floors than One Detroit Center (45 above-ground floors compared to 43 for One Detroit), The floors and spires of One Detroit are taller, with its roof sitting roughly 60ft higher than that of the Penobscot.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Detroit Branch Building is a bank building located at 160 West Fort Street in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.The building was constructed in 1927 in a Classical Revival style.In 1951, an eight-story glass-and-marble annex, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, was added to the building. The Modern annex is clearly designed not to mimic the original building, but to make a statement all its own.In 2004, the Federal Reserve Bank moved to a new building at 1600 East Warren Avenue, leaving the building on Fort empty. A developer purchased the building with the intention of creating loft space.In July 2011, Quicken Loans representatives were visiting the building, leading to speculation that Dan Gilbert would purchase the space. Gilbert announced the purchase on January 30, 2012.In February 2014, the Detroit Media Partnership, parent of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, announced all three organizations would occupy six floors in both the old and new sections of the building. The partnership expected to place signs on the exterior similar to those on the former headquarters. The move took place October 24–27, 2014.
