Buckingham Fountain is a Chicago landmark in the center of Grant Park. Dedicated in 1927, it is one of the largest fountains in the world. Built in a rococo wedding cake style and inspired by the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles, it is meant to allegorically represent Lake Michigan. It operates from April to October, with regular water shows and evening color-light shows. During the winter, the fountain is decorated with festival lights.HistoryThe fountain is considered Chicago's front door, since it resides in Grant Park, the city's front yard near the intersection of Columbus Drive and Congress Parkway. The fountain itself represents Lake Michigan, with four sets of sea horses (two per set) symbolizing the four states—Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana—that border the lake. The fountain was designed by beaux arts architect Edward H. Bennett. The statues were created by the French sculptor Marcel F. Loyau. The design of the fountain was inspired by the Bassin de Latome and modeled after Latona Fountain at Versailles.
The Grant is the companion structure to One Museum Park in the Near South Side community area in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is located at the north end of the Central Station development.OverviewMuseum Park is a complex of multiple residential towers within the Central Station development at the southern edge of Grant Park, across Lake Shore Drive from Chicago's Museum Campus. Construction of The Grant followed the 62-story One Museum Park, directly to the east. In 2006, the Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance, a non-profit organization was formed to provide representation for thousands of South Loop residents, including the Prairie District, Central Station and Museum Park, Motor Row, the South Michigan Ave Corridor, as well as other areas of the Near South Side.In July 2012, the building was acquired by New York-based Related Companies along with the former 1600 Museum Park and Museum Park Place 2 and later renamed The Grant, Adler Place and Harbor View. As of February 2013, 238 units in the building remained unsold.

The William W. Kimball House, located at 1801 Prairie Avenue in the Near South Side neighborhood of Chicago, was the home of piano manufacturer William Wallace Kimball. The house, which was built in 1890–92, was designed by architect Solon Spencer Beman in the Chateauesque style. The house's design features a number of turrets with a variety of roof shapes, a limestone exterior, and an elliptical bow window topped by an ornamented gable facing Prairie Avenue. The design is considered a significant example of the Chateauesque style by architectural historians; John Drury called the house Chicago's best Chateauesque design in 1941, and Marcus Whiffen cited the house as a representative example of Chateauesque architecture in America. Kimball reportedly spent $1,000,000 on the home. At the time, Prairie Avenue was known for its expensive homes designed in popular revival styles, and the district was home to many of Chicago's wealthiest residents. The Kimball House and the John J. Glessner House are the main two surviving examples of the district's homes of the late 1800s. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 9, 1971.
