Sacramento State’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a three-year program dedicated to graduating professional, evidence-informed physical therapists who have the knowledge and skills to provide patient care in any practice environment. The program’s curriculum is designed to provide a foundation in the science and art of physical therapy, one that engages students in clinical reasoning through problem-solving within the context of patient cases, both actual and simulated. In addition, students complete 36 weeks of full-time internships at three locations to learn by doing in their respective practice settings. The Sacramento State DPT is one of the first doctoral programs in the nation to integrate a mock electronic medical records (EMR) system into its curriculum, preparing students to discover and document data from simulated medical records. It also allows for collaboration with other health care professional colleagues through the shared EMR documentation system. Further, the department is one of the few to use a state-of-the-art simulation lab to educate physical therapy students, along with nursing students, in caring for and responding to emergencies with patients in an acute-care environment. Finally, Sacramento State is the first California State University campus to receive the requisite authorization to offer an independent DPT program.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Sacramento State Art History curriculum provides a full range of courses in Western and non-Western art, criticism, and visual culture from pre-history to the present and from many perspectives, formal and contextual. Faculty members hold advanced degrees from a variety of distinguished universities. Each offers undergraduate surveys as well as upper-division courses in his or her particular field of expertise. Lecture/discussion classes, seminars, independent studies, fieldwork, and studio courses produce college-level visual literacy, multicultural awareness, art historical skills (research, writing, traditional methods, visual analysis and synthesis, critical thinking), and understanding of art making practices. Students focus on an area of interest, which is enriched by electives from outside art history in areas such as anthropology, history, and humanities and religious studies. Art History is available as both a minor and, effective Fall 2004, as a concentration in the Art major. Art History courses also are taken by students majoring in entirely different subjects, and can be used towards the majors in Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Photography. Some lower division courses in Art History and Art Appreciation can be used to fulfill General Education requirements. The Art History concentration is ideal for students who seek an interdisciplinary liberal arts education that also develops their visual talents and inspires appreciation for human creativity across time and place. The art history degree affords a broad education as well as practical preparation for a wide range of future vocations and advanced professional studies. This is especially true for the many careers in the arts, such as artist, designer, architect, teacher, art writer, publicist, agent, consultant, museum curator, gallery director, or public arts administrator. Knowledge of the arts combines well with education in a second area, such as business and law. Students who wish to pursue advanced degrees in art history benefit from the close supervision of a mentor-professor who helps prepare them for graduate studies. Field experience can be arranged with the Crocker Museum of Art, California State Archives, California Arts Council, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, and other public and private art institutions in the Capital region. The Art Department and three student art clubs sponsor numerous exhibitions, lectures and events that bring exciting local, national, and international artists and art professionals to campus. The CSUS School of the Arts has created a forum for inter-arts education with the collaboration of the four departments of Art, Design, Music, and Theater /Dance. Opportunities to study art history abroad are available through the Office of Global Education at CSUS and the California State University International Program. University credit can be obtained for a semester to a year of study at colleges and international centers in Britain, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

In 1976, members of the Sacramento Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi expressed interest in initiating undergraduate members in the Sacramento area. Dr. Eugene Stevenson (ΑΔ, 1951), Richard Harris (ΓΑ, 1966), and Robert Sublett (ΓΙ, 1969) led brothers to work with a group of young men at Sacramento State and UC Davis to establish the first NPHC fraternity on the campuses. The resulting line, the Genesis 18, was ushered into Kappadom on Friday, December 17, 1976. After initiating 19 more in the Spring of 1977, the brothers at Sac State applied for a chapter; the Iota Beta was chartered by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on November 19, 1977. Since the chapter was established at California State University, Sacramento, the Iota Beta of Kappa Alpha Psi has personified the university's motto, "Leadership Begins Here". ■In 1977, Iota Beta was the first fraternity member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) to be established at Sac State. ■Two of Sac State's five African-American Associated Student Incorporated (ASI) presidents have been members of Kappa Alpha Psi.

65th Street Corridor Community Collaborative Project
Distance: 0.1 mi Competitive Analysis
6000 J St
Sacramento, CA 95819

The 65th Street Corridor Community Collaborative Project is a high-impact and multi-component community mobilization effort aimed at increasing student academic achievement, fostering student leadership, and improving parent participation for disadvantaged children living in neighborhoods where gang violence, a lack of access to resources and low civic engagement create a need for innovative, culturally competent strategies. The Project serves 7th -12th grade schools in Sacramento’s 65th Street corridor, a low-income and diverse community that extends from Elvas Blvd. to Broadway and is adjacent to the University campus. Sacramento State faculty and students are actively engaged in the Project, working with administrators, teachers, students, and parents from these schools to build a healthier, more engaged and vibrant community. This ongoing interaction between Sacramento State and the 65th Street corridor creates a venue for community concerns to be voiced at the grassroots level. Furthermore, the Project’s strong partnership with the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and its Student and Family Support Center allows for ongoing educational and social issues, such as academic success, emotional health, violence prevention, and family strength, to be addressed in a continuous and effective manner in a rapidly changing community.

Students for Justice in Palestine at Sacramento State
Distance: 0.1 mi Competitive Analysis
6000 J St
Sacramento, CA 95819

Sacramento State Students for Justice in Palestine is a group of students working toward justice and the recognition of universal rights for all current and displaced residents of historic Palestine. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination, justice, and equality. We support the 2005 call by Palestinian civil society for various forms of boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until it meets its obligations under international law by: 1) Ending Israel’s occupation and colonization of all Arab lands occupied in June 1967 and dismantling the separation wall; 2) Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and 3) Respecting, protecting, and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194. We recognize the moral imperative to respond to a society that has called for help and whose suffering is financed by the United States government and its taxpayers, and its corporations. As enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international humanitarian law, all people in historic Palestine deserve freedom of movement, freedom of education, freedom from military, political, and structural violence, and equality before the law. We as a group do not specifically endorse either a one- or two-state solution to the conflict. We believe in supporting and amplifying the voices of those working against injustice in the region, not in prescribing or imposing a solution. We also recognize that analysis of justice in Palestine must contextualize and include Bedouin, Druze, Mizrahi Jews, African asylum seekers, and Israeli conscientious objectors, among others. We are committed to educating ourselves about colonialism, militarism, nationalism, capitalism, racism, and sexism as they relate to the situation in Palestine/Israel, and we seek to oppose the harmful effects these forces have in the United States as well as Palestine. We are also committed to recognizing and working to eliminate oppressive power relations across lines of class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, ability, religion and nationality within our own work. We oppose discrimination along any of these lines and stand in solidarity with other groups working to oppose inequality in these areas. We see ourselves as part of the statewide and national movements of Students for Justice in Palestine, part of the legacy of student activism across California, and contributing to the larger project of creating a just society for all. We welcome anyone interested in these guiding objectives into our group. Feel free to contact us.
