The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa, Florida in July 1987 and has welcomed more than 10 million guests. The venue was renamed in November 2009 to recognize the generous donation, the largest individual philanthropic gift ever made to a cultural institution in the Tampa Bay area, of financier David A. Boca is located on West Platt Street in historic Hyde Park. The original garage and gas station was built in 1928, and was only the second gas station in Tampa. The original owner built the core building brick by brick himself and established a reputation for great service. Boca has paid tribute to the garage by restoring many elements from the original garage. The Boca bar and kitchen rests solidly on cement floor that was once that garage. The Hyde Park location was chosen based on the sense of community that exists in this neighbourhood - a perfect match to the Boca experience. Tampa Theatre was created by architectural designer John Eberson, one of the most prolific and internationally renowned movie palace designers of his time. In describing how Florida inspired his atmospheric theatre design, Eberson said: “I have been wintering in Florida for the past several years, and it is from this state that I got the atmospheric idea. I was impressed with the colorful scenes that greeted me at Miami, Palm Beach and Tampa. Visions of Italian gardens, Spanish patios, Persian shrines and French formal gardens flashed through my mind, and at once I directed my energies to carrying out these ideas.”

2011-2012 Walk Season runs from Oct thru May - FREE walks start and end at corner of N. Franklin St and Madison at our tent in front of CVS. Arrive as close to 12:00pm as possible - walks depart by 12:10pm and return at 12:50pm so you can cruise the Downtown Market. Each walk features a different route and theme.

We are on the eve of launching a multi-dimensional fundraising campaign to finance the "2015 Spring Break iDream Tour". The "iDream Tour" will take place the week of March 9-13, 2015 and it will span 5 states in 5 days! This group of young men and women will be ambassadors of their family, community, city, county, school district, and state as they sojourn to discover, for themselves, the truth about the Civil Rights Movement! Along with these youth will be our team of trained mentors engaging each child in the entire experience, educating and entertaining them through enlightened expression while elevating their expectations.

For the Participants The "Crit" course in Tampa includes several fast turns along paved and bricked roads. In the center of the crit course is Lykes Park. Lykes Park will feature a Wellness oriented festival for everyone in the family. The streets will be closed all day for the fast paced racing, but there is definitely something for everyone! For the Spectators A criterium, or crit, is a bike race held on a short course (usually less than 5 km), often run on closed-off city centre streets. Race length can be determined by a total time or a number of laps, in which case the number of remaining laps is calculated as the race progresses. Generally the event's duration (commonly one hour) is shorter than that of a traditional road race however, the average speed and intensity are appreciably higher. The winner is the first rider to cross the finish line without having been "lapped." Events often have prizes (called primes, pronounced "preems", and are cash or gifts) for winning specific intermediate laps (for instance, every 10th lap). A bell is usually rung to announce to the riders that whoever wins the next lap, wins the prime. Success in a criterium requires a mix of good technical skills — in particular, the ability to corner smoothly, while "holding your line" on the road, as well as rapidly and sharply — and riding safely with a large group on a short circuit and exceptional "sprint" ability to attack other riders and repeatedly accelerate hard from corners.
