The San Francisco Federal Building is an 18-story, 71.3m building at 90 7th Street on the corner of Mission and 7th streets in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The building was designed by the Morphosis architectural firm, as a supplement to the Phillip Burton Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Avenue. Thom Mayne of Morphosis designed the building using a juxtaposition of gray concrete walls, perforated metal panels, and custom, faceted wood ceilings. The building was expected to be completed in 2005, but construction issues and delays pushed the project completion to 2007.The building was designed to be a 'green' building consuming less than half the power of a standard office tower—an indication of how building design can help slash emissions of greenhouse gases. Utilizing natural light to illuminate 80% of the building helped it achieve worldwide recognition as the first Federal Building to be certified under the USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria. Additionally, it was the first naturally ventilated office building on the west coast since the advent of air conditioning. The building features some elevators which stop on every third floor to promote employee interaction and health. Users of the building exit the elevators and walk either up or down one floor via stairs. There are, however, also elevators which stop on every floor for users unable or unwilling to negotiate stairs.

The Supreme Court of California is the court of last resort in the courts of the State of California. It is headquartered in San Francisco and regularly holds sessions in Los Angeles and Sacramento. Its decisions are binding on all other California state courts.CompositionUnder the original 1849 California Constitution, the Court started with a chief justice and two associate justices. The court was expanded to five justices in 1862. Under the current 1879 constitution, the Court expanded to six associate justices and one chief justice, for the current total of seven. The justices are appointed by the Governor of California and are subject to retention elections.According to the California Constitution, to be considered for appointment, a person must be an attorney admitted to practice in California or have served as a judge of a California court for 10 years immediately preceding the appointment. To fill a vacant position, the Governor must first submit a candidate's name to the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation of the State Bar of California, which prepares and returns a thorough confidential evaluation of the candidate. Next, the Governor officially nominates the candidate, who must then be evaluated by the Commission on Judicial Appointments, which consists of the Chief Justice of California, the Attorney General of California, and a senior presiding justice of the California Courts of Appeal. The Commission holds a public hearing and if satisfied with the nominee's qualifications, confirms the nomination. The nominee can then immediately fill an existing vacancy, or replace a departing justice at the beginning of the next judicial term.

Water The SFPUC delivers drinking water from the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System to 2.6 million people. Two unique features of this system stand out: the drinking water provided is among the purest in the world; and the system for delivering that water is almost entirely gravity-fed, requiring minimal fossil fuel consumption. The Water Enterprise also manages the City's Auxiliary Water Supply System for firefighting preparedness. Power The Hetch Hetchy Power System's hydroelectric powerhouses, solar installations and biogas units generate about 1.7 billion kilowatt hours of clean, renewable and reliable energy annually for vital City services. We are continuously researching, developing, and installing new electricity-generating resources to provide clean power for our customers. San Francisco will be one of the first cities in the nation to offer residents and businesses the opportunity to choose a 100% renewable energy supply with our CleanPowerSF program. Our diverse, renewable energy portfolio makes us one of the cleanest energy utilities in California. Sewer The Wastewater Enterprise provides innovative resource re-use initiatives such as the Biofuel/Alternative Energy Program. We generate bio-energy as a byproduct of processing fats, oils, and greases that can clog our combined sewer system. The system collects, transmits, treats and discharges about 9.2 million cubic feet of sanitary runoff per year. We protect the public health and environmental safety of the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean. Civic Center/UN Plaza is a BART and Muni Metro station in the Civic Center of San Francisco. The westernmost of the dual BART/Muni stops on the Market Street Subway, Civic Center/UN Plaza acts as a major hub for passenger movement throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. With 18,432 exits each weekday, it is the fourth-busiest station in the BART system.LocationOutside, in the United Nations Plaza itself, facing Market Street, there is a fountain and a north-south cross marking its center to be at latitude/longitude coordinates 37°46′48″N 122° 24′49″W. There is a flea market at the plaza or farmer's market every day, year round. There are several notable buildings in the Civic Center area, including City Hall, the War Memorial Opera House, Asian Art Museum, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall. The San Francisco Public Library's main branch is located across the street and San Francisco City Clinic is 2 blocks east on 7th street. Tenderloin is located two blocks north of the station.HistoryService at this station began on November 5, 1973.Station layoutLike all stations in the Market Street Subway apart from Van Ness, Civic Center/UN Plaza has a tri-level configuration. Passengers first descend from the street to a mezzanine concourse containing faregates for passengers to enter separate BART and Muni paid areas, with one BART entrance on each end and one for Muni in the middle. Muni Metro trains stop at an island platform on the second level down. The Muni platform is punctured in several locations by openings for stairs and escalators that go directly from the mezzanine level to the BART platform, bypassing the Muni platform. As the openings are not blocked off by walls, it is possible to hear activity on the Muni platform from the BART platform.
