Montessori Parent Child Center Reviews

566 Columbus Ave
Boston, MA 02118

(617) 513-4270

The Montessori Parent Child Center is the FIRST educational facility of its kind in Massachusetts, offering programs and services – focused on the whole family – unavailable anywhere else in the state. Our goal is to empower families of young children by providing education and support. Our understanding of education is reflective of the word’s original meaning – “to draw forth from within” – and we are committed to helping every member of the family reach their highest potential. We follow Dr. Maria Montessori's educational philosophy and method, which regards education as an aid to life, that is, a path to the full development of each individual: physical, intellectual, emotional and moral.

Gunther Schuller founded this innovative program in 1973 to explore the "third stream" that is formed when the streams of classical music and jazz are creatively combined. Under the leadership of Ran Blake, a MacArthur Fellow, the program has evolved to embrace a rich palette of world music forms. Our faculty come from a broad range of stylistic backgrounds, with collective expertise in jazz, 20th-century composition, Jewish folk styles, and North Indian classical music. Master musicians from various world music traditions regularly visit for studio instruction, masterclasses, and concerts. Our program is one of the few places in the world where one can absorb and synthesize the music of other cultures in a personal and creative way. Our graduates include such notable performers as internationally renowned jazz and Klezmer clarinetist Don Byron, keyboardist John Medeski of Medeski, Martin & Wood, and Jacqueline Schwab, whose solo piano improvisations were featured in Ken Burns’s award-winning PBS series "The Civil War."

Experiential. Relevant. Entrepreneurial. Empowering. Some things about Northeastern will never change. But the Empower campaign will—with your help—transform higher education for today’s students and professionals. And it will fuel our efforts to solve the greatest global challenges of our time. How? By investing in intellectual capital, human capital: Our students and faculty. The campaign has three strategic priorities. We will leverage our century-strong leadership in experiential education—co-op, study abroad, service learning, and research—to prepare exceptional student-leaders. We will recruit and support a world-class faculty. And we will ignite innovation in emerging fields and industries, including health, security, and sustainability. Together, we can: • Discover drugs for diseases from cancer and diabetes to malaria; • Build homes and skyscrapers that withstand earthquakes; • Invent devices that help disabled patients regain lost function; and • Settle new frontiers of inquiry: urban coastal science, sustainable manufacturing, renewable energy, restorative justice, video gaming, and green architecture, to name but a few goals. With your support, Northeastern will continue a legacy of innovation, entrepreneurship, and service to society. Join us in shaping the future.
