The California Children's Services (CCS) program provides diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, and physical and occupational therapy services to children under age 21 years old with CCS-eligible medical conditions. Examples of CCS-eligible conditions include, but are not limited to, chronic medical conditions such as cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, heart disease, cancer, traumatic injuries, and infectious diseases producing major sequelae. The Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services System responds to over 110,000 calls for 911 EMS service each year covering 1,300 square miles and serving over 2.2 million people.
The Labor and Delivery (L&D) Unit delivers between 450 and 550 babies a month, making it one of the busiest L&Ds in the state. L&D has 14 labor, delivery and recovery rooms as well as a four-bed triage area to evaluate patients in early labor. L&D staffing for each shift consist of 12 to 13 RNs, 1 OBT, 2 to 3 USA (clean rooms, transport patients and equipment) and 1-2 clerks. Each shift has an Assistant Nurse Manager. The unit also has a Nurse Coordinator and a storekeeper. This staffing level allows each nurse to care for 1-2 patients, following AWHONN/ACOG guidelines. All RN staff have ACLS and NRP certification. Mothers labor, deliver, and recover in the same room. Newborns remain with their mother during the recovery, but most of the assessments and administration of medication is done by the Mother-Infant Care Center staff. SCVMC has a cesarean section rate of 18-19%. L&D staff scrub, circulate and recover these patients. SCVMC has a renowned Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). NICU staff attends all high-risk deliveries. During your labor and delivery, you will stay in one of our private birthing rooms. These rooms include a private bathroom and television. Your partner or labor coach can be present and a sleeper chair will be provided in your private room. Please know that during your postpartum stay in our maternal infant care center, guests cannot remain in your room overnight.
Our state-of-the-art facility includes computed radiography (CR) units, digital fluoroscopy and digital angiography suites, highest-quality ultrasound machines, high-field MR scanners, 16- and 64- slice Multi-Detector Row CT (MDCT) scanners, and a mobile PET-CT. In addition, the department is equipped with an advanced full PACS, rendering it a completely digital department with the exception of mammography. Currently, over 200,000 examinations are performed a year.
Emergency Dept services include: Level 1 Trauma Center Express Care Clinic Pediatric Trauma Care Burn Center Spinal Cord Injury Center Sexual Assault Response Team Rapid Medical Evaluation Unit The Emergency Department at SCVMC is the busiest in Santa Clara County, treating 250 patients a day or 90,000 patients every year. The department consists of physicians with specialized training in emergency medicine, emergency medical resident, physician assistants, and over 90 nurses. Department staff also educates residents from other specialties and medical students from a number of medical schools, including Stanford. Our professional staff provides this care to patients with a wide-range of emergency medical problems – adult medical, pediatric, traumatic a, and psychiatric conditions -- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The nurses of the Emergency Department are Advanced Cardiac Life (ACLS) and Trauma Nurse certified and many are also certified Emergency Room Nurses (CEN). All physicians on staff are either Board Certified or Board Prepared in Emergency Medicine.
This clinic provides walk-in care for non-emergency medical problems. In case of emergency call 911. Visit the Express Care Clinic for fast, safe, quality medical care if you do not have a personal doctor or if your personal doctor is not available. No appointments are needed. The Express Care Clinic is located at 751 S. Bascom Avenue and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. seven days a week.
The TCU also includes another 11 beds where specialized care is provided to adult neurology, neurosurgical and trauma patients who present with an acute neuro disease process. In the TCU/N, specialized nursing care is provided to potentially unstable patients requiring frequent observations and/or interventions. Specialized care is also provided to patients requiring neurological observation, cardiac monitoring such as S/P coronary intervention e.g. PTCA and pacemaker insertion. Other TCU/N patients include those with potentially lethal arrhythmia requiring elective cardio version, R/O MI, S/P MI, and S/P cardiovascular surgery. TCU registered nurses are ACLS certified. TCU nurses are specially trained to care for mechanically ventilated patients with acute pulmonary disorders and peritoneal dialysis patients in chronic renal failure. Nurses work closely with physicians, cardiac rehab and respiratory therapist.
The Regional Burn Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has been treating burn patients for over 35 years. It is one of only two regional burn trauma centers between Los Angeles and the Oregon border. This eight-bed intensive care unit treats both adults and children. The Regional Burn Center has been specifically designed for the care, treatment and rehabilitation of thermal, chemical, contact, electrical and radiation injuries. In addition to specialized clinical professionals, a Psychologist, Social Worker and a case Manager are part of the team to help patients or family members deal emotionally and financially with a burn injury.

A doctor referral is required. **Pharmacy hours are Monday thru Sunday, 9:00am-10:00pm Valley Specialty Center (VSC) offers 244,000 square-feet of bright and open spaces, 190 exam rooms and pharmacy, as well as laboratory and imaging services. With genetic counseling, a new Cancer Center, and other specialized services, the physicians and medical staff of VSC are able to care for over 265,000 patients each year. The six level Valley Specialty Center brings together many of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's adult outpatient specialty services. It is also home to laboratory services and the outpatient pharmacy. Patient education, financial counseling and many diagnostic imaging services are also provided in this building.
The expert and specialized staff of the Rehabilitation Center demonstrate their excellence by providing advanced, compassionate and quality care for patients with the most complex cases. The Rehabilitation Center treats more than 550 patients every year, and for each of these patients, highly qualified physicians, nurses and therapy professionals take an all-inclusive approach to rehabilitation, helping patients develop the skills they need to get closer to independence. The Rehabilitation Center, with Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury units, as well as Stroke and General Rehabilitation Programs, provides innovative and cutting edge programs as part of a patient’s treatment plan. Outcomes for patients of the Rehabilitation Center at SCVMC far exceed the national average.

Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) is operated by the Acute Psychiatric Services Division of Valley Medical Center (VMC) and is the only 24 hour locked emergency psychiatric room in Santa Clara County. EPS is charged with the evaluation, treatment, and appropriate referral of all patients who arrive on the VMC campus either voluntarily or involuntarily. Most patients arrive at EPS on an involuntary legal status.

At Simoneon Pediatric Development Center, we are highly experienced, licensed pediatric occupational therapists. Services we provide include Sensory Integration, Auditory Integration Training, Samonas Listening Program, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, Anat Baniel Method (Feldenkrais), Greenspan Floor Time, Masgutova Method, Wilbarger Protocol, Handwriting Without Tears. We serve infants through adults (mildly to moderately affected) with challenges in learning, attention, organization, coordination, independence skills, auditory processing, language development, social skills. Typical diagnoses served are Sensory Integration Disorder, Auditory Processing Disorder, Motor Coordination Delays (or Dyspraxia), Developmental Delay (for infants), mild autism, high functioning Aspergers and/or the combination of two or more of the above.
The office of Dr. Sima Stein is dedicated to providing high quality medical care to infants, children, and teenagers / young adults from 0 to 21 year old. The practice offers a full range of services from evaluation and management of newborns, healthy and sick children to the assessment and monitoring of childhood development (gross and fine motor skills, cognition and speech), nutrition, and prevention. As a courtesy for families with newborn infants and those scheduled for well visits, we offer a separate waiting room to limit contact with sick children. The waiting room is equipped to entertain patients of all ages with toys, books and our popular high resolution videos. We also have an onsite treatment room, a private room for nursing mothers and have a pharmacy located in close proximity. After establishing a successful practice in San Jose, near the O'Connor Hospital, over the past 8 years, Dr. Stein has now expanded the practice to include a Mountain View office on the 2nd floor of El Camino Hospital.
