A Short History of Red and his Icehouse Lewis Hughes “Red” Simmons Born in Mount Pleasant on November 12, 1937 Red became part of the shrimping and fishing industry very early in his life. The Simmons family dock was built in 1957 to provide a shrimp packing shed for local shrimpers. By 1970, Red headed the business built upon these same old concrete floors, providing countless tons of the sea’s bounty to many a supper table. In the mid-1970s Red installed a big ice blowing machine to fill the ice holds of the local fleet. He provided ice and fish packing services until the late 1990s by which time he was ready to retire and start traveling with his wife, Cindy. The couple loved seeing the world and spent many a memorable time together until Red’s untimely ‘Crossing Of The Bar’ in September 2002. He is truly loved and missed by all. It was Red’s desire that this old fish and ice house be transformed into a public gathering place at the water’s edge where locals and visitors, regardless of their age, wealth or culture, could gather, watch the boats go by and help celebrate, preserve and protect the rich and storied traditions of Shem Creek. This is our aim here at Red’s Icehouse. God bless Red for his work… and vision!

How The Legend Was (Home) Made. SIDE ONE 1. Summer of 1990 Our first gig. The original Wild Wing Cafe opened featuring new and unique specialty wing flavors. As word spread, thousands flocked to the wing to check out a special place to call their own. 2. Growth & Dedication Our big, plump, delicious wings were so popular, visitors began wanting to open a Wild Wing Cafe in their hometowns, too. As we've grown, we continue to be dedicated to quality and making as many menu items in-house as possible. 3. Gettin' Better With Age Wild Wing Cafe has won "Best Wings" in almost every location. Sixteen years straight in Charleston, SC, eight years straight in Augusta, GA, and multiple times in so many other markets. Thanks, guys. We think our local wingeaters and funseekers are the best too! 4. Taste the Difference It's not just the kickass wings. We hand-patty our own burgers from fresh ground angus chuck. Our chicken fingers are fresh tenderloins, dipped in our homemade batter and fried to order, and our onion rings are hand cut and dipped in a mildly spicy beer batter. We even make our own dressings fresh every day. SIDE TWO 5. Rockin' In the Free World From the very beginning, we've always supported live and local music. On that stage, bands get to make a name for themselves before they hit the big time. From acoustic acts on the patio to our all day music fest "Wingstock", no one loves to throw a party more than Wild Wing. 6. Your local BURGERFI isn’t some industrialized fast food giant. They were started in a gourmet kitchen, by gourmet Chefs. Not knowing fast food, the back of the house is built to be less burger joint, more five-star restaurant. When they needed a sauce, the Chefs didn’t call a food supplier. They started chopping. Mixing. Cooking. Making better choices. BURGERFI is better to people: serving only the finest natural, certified angus burgers, dogs, hand-cut fries, frozen custard and more. They’re better to the environment: each location is built to environmentally sustainable best practices and includes earth-friendly elements. And, they’re better to animals: sourcing from one of the best ranches in the country. Where cattle roam free. Breathe mountain air. Eat grass and are treated humanely. BURGERFI never waivers from this high standard. This doesn't come easy. Certainly not cheap. Truth is there are simpler ways to put a burger on a bun. But, they're not better.

It begins with simplicity. PaPa ZuZu's didn’t invent the tomato or feta cheese, but we use simple items such as these in the most fresh and most authentic way possible. For example, we ripen our tomatoes on location and organically grow our own herbs, giving us total control of the product, and providing you with the best tasting ingredients possible. And when available, all of our tomatoes are grown locally. Other ways we take simple seriously include: ✴ Real Calamata olives from Calamta, Greece ✴ Fresh, hand-made daily Hummus, Gazpacho, and Baba Ghanouj ✴ Feta and Greek Yogurt made specially by a Greek goat farmer in Canada ✴ Olive oil from the Koutrakos family, about 20 miles outside Sparta PaPa ZuZu’s serves up fresh salads, gyros, vegetarian plates, grilled pizzas, stuffed pitas and more. Always made with the freshest ingredients!

VINTAGE (noun): the time that something of quality was produced Some may think that there is not much in common between the empathetic writing style of John Steinbeck and the melodic riffs in Jeff Buckley’s 1994 recording of ‘Hallelujah’. We find that there is a poetic connection between the two, although it might not be what originally comes to mind at first thought. The creation of these finished masterpieces will be everlasting, but it is not just the book, the song, the technology, or the movie in itself that makes them ‘vintage’. Rather, it is the people who created them; their journey and story of which culminated the idea and the practice of following through with doing what seemed impossible at the time. Passion is what flows through the blood and framework of what is considered ‘vintage’. It is passion that drives us and motivates us to actually DO. It is seen in the hidden secret of Marilyn Monroe’s smirk; it is felt when strangers join in harmony to sing to to ‘Tiny Dancer’ at a local bar; it is heard through the warm ambience that Audrey Hepburn gives us through her calm voice and dictation. Now, what do these people, these memories, and these creations have to do with a coffee shop & cafe? Every story needs a setting. We are working to build something ‘new’ out of these lessons of time-a place where you can find the balance of comfort and creativity. We want to grab a beer with you and your co-workers after a long day in the Charleston heat. We want to dance to Eric Clapton with you at your wedding reception. We want to get excited with you when you run into your favorite teacher from high school for the first time in years. We want to live in the present, dream of the future, and reminisce the past. We have the setting, and now all we need are the characters. Will you play a part?

Blend Juice Bar is Charleston’s latest all organic, all natural, all local juice, smoothie, and salad bar. Offering fast, personalized service, knowledgeable staff, and advanced juicing techniques. First conceived three years ago after our founder, Jesse Derbyshire, discovered the massive array of health benefits organic juices, smoothies, salads and all foods have over the torrent of processed foods that are more readily available. We have spent those years creating relationships with local farmers, food vendors, and like-minded people both in the Charleston area and all over the U.S. Our goal has always been to make a natural, healthy alternative to fast food that is quick, cheap, and above all tasty! We believe that we have achieved that goal and after trying us for yourself, we think that you will agree.
