The Fashion Class is a creative environment for children as young as 5, teens up to 17 and adults of all ages to learn the fun of designing and sewing their own clothing. In 2009 The Fashion Class founder Kerri Q. began teaching an after-school fashion program offered to private New York city schools. After a popular first year and even more popular second (with new schools added to our list each term) The Fashion Class was officially born (2010) and began offering classes outside of schools so that any child in the NYC area could learn to sew and design. In 2014 our second full time studio in Merrick NY opened for the fashionistas of Long Island. We now offer classes in Manhattan, Long Island and Brooklyn for children and teenagers ages 6 through 18 years. Our locations cover midtown and the garment center (21 W 39th St), the Upper East Side (1412 2nd Ave), Merrick Long Island (1812 Merrick Road) and Carroll Gardens Brooklyn (128 Union St). Our classes include fashion drawing, art + design, craft making, accessory design, sewing and fashion design. All supplies are included in our fee and all students keep their creations. Our sessions end with a fashion show (on our exclusive light up runway) where our students model and showcase the clothing, accessories, and artwork they’ve created throughout the semester! We offer class options 7 days per week in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Summer is dedicated to our full day 2-week summer fashion camp program where students sew, design, and visit real fashion design showrooms. We've visited Austin Scarlett from Project Runway, Marchesa, Alice + Olivia, Anne Klein, Marie Claire Magazine, and so much more! We also offer one day through week long fashion camps over school break holidays such as Columbus Day, Presidents Day, winter break, and Spring Break school holidays. The Black & Blue Foundation was founded in November of 2011 during “Domestic Violence Month” by Celebrity Hip Hop Publicist, Lynn K. Hobson. As a Survivor of an abusive relationship and violent attack, Ms. Hobson felt it necessary to create a foundation where men and women can come together to raise awareness towards a common cause. The Black & Blue Foundation was started to raise awareness about Domestic Violence. The Foundation provides support to women of all cultures who are coming out of an abusive relationship. Through counseling, monthly workshops, and events, the Foundation provides a social setting and an alternative outlet for women. “I noticed that there was a void in the Entertainment Industry where the knowledge of Domestic Violence stats were scarce”, states Bo Jones. “This Foundation was established so that we could leverage our relationships to spread the word and encourage battered women to seek help”. Jones is the Brother and Manager to Platinum Rap Recording Artist, Lil Kim. “There are thousands of women who are in abusive relationships and they are in need of a Foundation where they can come, get inspired, and motivated to move on from the life changing experience”, states Ms. Hobson. The Black & Blue Foundation will additionally provide some “light” legal counseling, advice on how to proceed with the procurement of a Final Restraining Order, provide recommendations for a crisis situation, point women in the right direction, and provide opportunities that will be uplifting and encouraging. “When I was attacked, I was just pushed through the system with no support. My Attacker violated the Temporary Restraining Order because the court system had not served him properly and the whole ordeal was discouraging and draining. So I just want to provide an oasis, a platform for women to get some support and direction”, states Ms. Hobson. “The DV stats state that more than 55% of women who have been physically abused never contacted any organizations, shelter, or police”. This Foundation was named for the beating and bruises Ms. Hobson endured during her attack. Years ago, Ms. Hobson’s Best Friend, Trina Stackhouse wrote a poem in her self-published book, The Point: Observations of Life in 2001 and one particular poem entitled, “Domestic” inspired the Foundation’s name: DOMESTIC Her words cut like glass. His love was Black & Blue. -Trina Stackhouse Ms. Hobson and Mr. Jones will spearhead a slew of Fundraisers for the Foundation in 2012. “Bowl Against Abuse”, “Loving Yourself Day at Salon Rocks in Englewood, NJ”; and “The Black & Blue Ball” are just a few of the annual event properties that will be established and produced. For more information on The Black & Blue Foundation, please follow us on Twitter: @blackandbluefdn and/or on Facebook: The Black and Blue Foundation. ###
