The Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") becomes fully effective on January 1st. Colorado will be expanding Medicaid coverage to anyone under 138% of the Federal Poverty Level - approximately $16,000 per year for a single person. It makes it against the law for insurance companies to deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions like HIV and cancer. It creates "insurance exchanges" where the uninsured and under-insured can purchase private policies in a competitive market. Colorado ADAP will support eligible members to acquire health care and to pay for it.
