Independence Center is committed to providing a comprehensive system of high quality programs and services that assists adults in the St. Louis metropolitan area with serious and persistent mental illnesses to live and work in the community, independently and with dignity. To accomplish its mission, the Center promotes rehabilitation and employment, provides educational, social and housing opportunities and offers training in its approach to community based care.
SNIA works closely with elected officials, police and other community leaders to better the quality of life in our neighborhood. Plus, we market the neighborhood to potential residents, through community events.
The Italian American Heritage Corporation is one of the oldest Italian American organization in the United States. It was organized on November 11, 1866 and was incorporated on December 6, 1866 it is composed of many St. Louis Italian-American Organizations, who joined together a number of years ago to ensure that there will always be a Columbus Day Parade. The first parade was organized by the Fratellanza Society in 1867 through the effort of an Italian settlement in downtown St Louis. The parade route started downtown and terminated at the statue of Chistopher Columbus ( donated by Henry Shaw ) in Tower Park. For many years it has been held on " The Hill" . The parade is always the highlight of the Columbus Day celebration by many Italian Organizations to promote the philosophy and culture of their heritage by participating in a Festa after the parade. The Festa is traditionally held in Berra Park.

The District was created in 2007 by City of St. Louis Board of Aldermand Bill #67593 for the five-year period beginning January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2012. The District Property is all of the property located within the City of St. Louis abutting the roadway commonly known as Flora Place together with any rear parcels that abut parcels abutting on Flora Place and bounded on the east by Grand Boulevard, on the west by Tower Grove Avenue, on the north by the east-west alleyways located in CB 4935, CB 4940, CB 4941, CB 4946, CB 4947, and CB 4952 (and excluding those properties north of such alley ways abutting Russell Boulevard ), and on the south by the east-west alleyways located in CB 4934, CB 4929, CB 4920, CB 4919, CB 2117, and CB 2118 (and excluding those properties south of such alleyways abutting Flad Avenue). The District is governed by a Board consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Block Captains from each block within the District. The Board meets five times a year or more at the house of the President. The Flora Place CID Board will meet in 2012 on the following schedule. MPOWERSTL hosts tons of free events for younger Gay/Bi guys and transwomen in St. Louis. While some of our events are education-based, most of them are about being social, and all of them are designed to be a lot of fun! These events are not only great places to meet guys and have a good time: they're also opportunities to volunteer and get involved in your community! We try to focus on the entire "gay experience," not just the bar/club scene, and we're all about helping guys maintain healthy minds, bodies, and relationships. If you want to get involved, we have something that is PERFECT for you.
We have regular science labs during school year on Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. We have astronomy, chemistry, agriscience, engineering, computer science, neuroscience, and entrepreneurship components in our program that engage teens in critical thinking about science and fun scientific learning. During summer time, we don't have regular components but we do have Summer Time Science that serves the same purpose as regular school year activities while adds to more insights of knowledge and provides more internship opportunities for the teens.
The members of the Eagle Scout Association raise money and work on a variety of service projects with the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Located at 1126 S. Kingshighway in St. Louis, MO, Little Bit of Haven provides a home away from home for families traveling to St. Louis from afar with a seriously ill or injured family member requiring a hospital stay. Since St. Louis is recognized as having some of the best doctors in the nation, it is not uncommon for families to travel hundreds or thousands of miles away for the best care. We offer a 6 bedroom, 3 story home, available 24 hours a day, within walking distance to St. Louis Children's and Barnes Jewish Hospital. Allowing family members to stay close by enables them to communicate with doctors as well as be there for their loved one at any time of day. Being so close is just as important as the actual medical care they receive. When families are faced with a medical crisis, the last thing they should have to think about is where they can afford to stay, where they will do their laundry, where they will get their next meal or where they can lay their heads. A Little Bit of Haven seeks to provide just that, rest and peace, at little or sometimes no cost, depending on the situation. We uphold a mission of hope: MPM Haiti works directly with individuals and families in Haiti in programs of self-empowerment and essential relief through such programs as: • Education scholarships • Microcredit small business startups for entrepreneurial women • Vocational education and training in a highly competitive job market • Water purification and health education for families • Direct relief, such as nutrition, clean water, medical referral and adequate shelter for those in greatest need
We are a federal tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. We meet regularly with our Board of Directors and as of January 2007, we send newsletters to our LGBTQ email list, which includes current Center-sponsored events and volunteer opportunities.
At City Greens Market we believe nutritious food is an essential component of a happy and healthy life. Food is our body's fuel. People unite around food - sharing meals and memories with family, friends, and neighbors. Our community should have access to healthy, fresh, and affordable choices to fuel our bodies and minds. And we can make this happen! City Greens Market sells products from local Missouri and Illinois farmers. And it's all sold AT COST. How are we able to do so? With the support of our members! We need your support! Our non-profit organization is supported through memberships. Houesholds with higher incomes (over $30,000) pay an annual membership donation, while families with lower incomes (under $30,000) join as members without donating. Then everybody shops at the same prices - AT COST! Instead of marking up our products to make a profit, our paid members make the profit for us. PLEASE HELP US serve our neighbors by making healthy food accessible. City Greens Market is a local food OASIS smack-dab in the middle of a food DESERT. FOOD FOR ALL!
Family P.R.I.D.E. (Parental Resources, Infant Development and Environment), Midtown's outreach to pregnant moms and parents of newborns and toddlers is 15 years old in 2008. The program was designed to provide support and resources to new parents and families where healthy births were a concern. Since its beginnings many healthy babies have been born. In 2008, Midtown was established as a "Pregnancy Resource Center" allowing a focus on pregnant moms, especially adolescents. A library of books for moms and kids was established. Also, a monthly store is available to participants where they may receive diapers, developmental toys and books, bus tickets, children's clothing or other needed items. At Midtown, there is a celebration of life everyday!
CID is a school where children who are deaf and hard of hearing learn to listen, talk, read and succeed. We serve families and their children birth-age 12 and provide educational resources for listening and spoken language professionals.

The educational philosophy at Shaw Avenue Children's Center is demonstrated by the following: We include a diverse group of families and staff. Our smaller overall enrollment size and our small child to teacher ratios are comfortable for very young children. Our encouraging learning environment is formed by our knowledge of individual child development, as opposed to a school model based on age requirements. We promote the growth of children's emotional security and confidence as a foundation for their mental and physical growth. Teams of teachers model the decision-making and cooperation that we expect children to learn. The practice of our Peace Table process confirms that young children have the ability to reach mutually agreeable solutions.

Beyond Housing has met the challenge of evolving to incorporate the changing needs of families, communities and the 21st century workplace. While identifying and addressing immediate needs to establish stability, families are also engaged in a comprehensive array of services that produce positive outcomes. Beyond Housing is a charter member of the NeighborWorks®, a national network of community-based organizations that improve and strengthen communities through cooperative efforts with residents, business people, government officials, and other partners.
