Caltrans District 12 encompasses the entirety of Orange County and was established by the California State Legislature in 1988. The jurisdictional boundaries of the District, Orange County, encompass a metropolitan area of 794 square miles, including 34 cities and 3 million people (as of 2009), and is crisscrossed by 17 state highway routes. To provide for the transportation needs of the traveling public, District 12 maintains and operates 279 route miles of highway and 226 directional miles of full time High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lanes, one of the largest HOV lane networks in California.
The Irvine Police Department Honor Guard serves to formally represent the Department by attending, participating in and planning for the presentation of the Nation’s Colors during community events and memorial services. The Irvine Police Department Honor Guard is a team composed of twenty men and women of the Irvine Police Department who represent the Irvine Police Department and the City of Irvine at local state and national events. Annually, the Honor Guard attends the California’s Peace Officer’s Memorial in Sacramento and the National Peace Officer’s Memorial in Washington DC, where they have play an integral role in preparation and implementation of memorial events. In addition to attending funerals of fallen officers to honor their ultimate sacrifice, the Honor Guard will typically present the Nation’s at about 35 community events each year.
