Standing in the midst of downtown Los Angeles, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels serves the total Archdiocese of over 5 million Catholics. As the heart of all 287 Parish Churches and communities, it is the place where the Archbishop celebrates the major Liturgies of the year with clergy, religious and laity. The Cathedral serves as a "model Church for all Parish Churches" in the style and content of its liturgical celebrations. In design, art and furnishings, the Cathedral is rich in cultural diversity in a city in which Sunday Mass is celebrated in 42 different languages. Olvera Street is in the oldest part of Downtown Los Angeles, California, USA, and is part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. Many of the Plaza District's Historic Buildings are on Olvera Street, including the Avila Adobe (1818), the Pelanconi House (1857), and the Sepulveda House (1887). The tree-shaded, pedestrian mall marketplace with craft shops, restaurants and roving troubadours is a popular tourist destination.HistoryEarly daysLos Angeles was founded in 1781 by Spanish pobladores (settlers), on a site southeast of today's Olvera Street near the Los Angeles River. They consisted of 11 families — 44 men, women, and children — and were accompanied by a few Spanish soldiers. They had come from nearby Mission San Gabriel Arcángel to establish a secular pueblo on the banks of the Porciúncula River at the Indian village of Yang-na. The new town was named El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles. Priests from San Gabriel established an asistencia (a sub-mission), the Nuestra Señora Reina de los Angeles Asistencia, to tend to their religious needs. The pueblo eventually built its own parish church, known today as the "Old Plaza Church." Unpredictable flooding forced the settlers to abandon the original site and move to higher ground in the early 1800s.

The Cathedral Center of St. Paul is home to Southern California's oldest Episcopal parish -- the Congregation of St. Athanasius, dating from 1864 -- which conducts services in Spanish, Korean and English. Also on site are the administrative and ministry offices of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and its Bishops. A Retreat Center and meeting spaces serve numerous community and church groups, and the Cathedral Center Food Program serves hundreds of households weekly.

In the year 2005, Pastor Matthew Barnett had a dream to mobilize young leaders from all over the globe and give them an opportunity to do what they were born to do, change the world. The Dream Center Leadership school is more than a school, it's a movement. This movement was not formed by us, it was not created by man or any organization, it is not a passing fad and it is not a trend. We have seen movements come and go, but this one was before us and will be after us. This movement was set into motion by the one true God, and it will never die. Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost and that has become our cause, a cause that the Dream Center Leadership School has defended for it's entire existence. The students are helping The Dream Center to visibly change the atmosphere of one of the most influential cities in the world by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Los Angeles every single day through selfless love and servant leadership. Through hands-on ministry outreach, training opportunities and focused teachings, our students' natural leadership abilities are strengthened. We believe that by the time each student has finished their season here they will be ready to lead in whatever capacity or role God is calling them to in their future. Whether that be in full-time ministry or in the secular workplace. Students have the opportunity to sharpen their giftings and talents through creative multimedia performances including dance, worship, preaching and video at churches and schools throughout southern California. DCLS students also have the opportunity to earn college credits through our partnership with Victory University during their time in the program. Students are also heavily involved with the operations of Angelus Temple, the church of the Dream Center. They will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of the church ministries. And of course, the students attend Angelus Temple every Sunday to receive a powerful message from Pastor Matthew Barnett. Students also attend Thursday night services in which they hear from a wide variety of world renowned speakers which in the past have included: TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer, John Bevere, Chris Hodges, Steven Furtick and many more. The Dream Center Leadership School is unlike any other school as it offers such an extreme variety of ministry and leadership training opportunities. The rich tapestry of Los Angeles began with a single thread: on September 4, 1781, the little band of settlers founded their new town - El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles - with a Mass and procession in honor of Our Lady of the Angels, to whom they dedicated the infant town. From time to time since then, Angelenos have sought the aid and protection of the Mother of God for what has become one of the greatest --- and yet, most challenged --- cities on the planet. In the face of the economic, social, and spiritual threats faced today not only by Los Angeles by the State, Nation, and World, the members of the Foundation of Our Lady of the Angels seek to gather all --- Catholic and non-Catholic alike --- who wish once more to entreat the aid and blessing of Our Lady of the Angels upon our Archdiocese, City and County. We look forward to doing this in three ways: 1 Sponsoring an annual Mass preceded by a Procession in honor of Our Lady of the Angels at a prominent church in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, followed by a Feast to celebrate the birthday of our Archdiocese and City in her name; 2 Maintenance of a website (www.thequeenofangels.com) dedicated to educating Catholics and non-Catholics alike about Church teaching on devotion to Our Lady and the Angels, the Kingship of Christ, and related matters; and 3 Personal devotion of the members of the Foundation and the participants in the Mass, Procession and Feast to Our Lady of the Angels, who through their prayers and good works will seek to engender reverence for the Blessed Virgin, bring the community together, and invoke the blessings of God upon the religious and civic leaders of our multicultural community and all of the inhabitants of the greater Los Angeles area, Catholic and non-Catholic alike.
