Welcome to the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center at Oregon Health & Science University. We are the only academic medical center west of the Rocky Mountains offering comprehensive diabetes care for children and adults at a single location. This allows us to deliver multi-disciplinary care - bringing doctors from different specialties together with nurses, nutritionists and other providers to help patients of all ages.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 227-bed, acute care medical facility in Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon. Opened in 1929, it is located on Marquam Hill adjacent to Oregon Health & Sciences University, and is connected to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital via a skybridge. The original hospital was replaced in the 1980s and has a capacity of up-to 478 beds.HistoryThe University of Oregon Medical School's regents donated land on Marquam Hill in 1926 to what is now the Department of Veterans Affairs. The property was to be used to construct a veterans hospital, with construction starting in February 1928. Offices opened at the new facility in November 1928, and patients were transferred to the new hospital in December 1928. In 1932, an administration building opened, followed by 13 quonset huts from 1946 to 1948 following World War II. The last addition to the old campus came in 1949 when a 155-bed tuberculosis hospital opened. The Portland VA started working with the adjacent medical school in 1946 on joint programs.The Veterans Administration announced in May 1976 that a new hospital would be built in Portland. A local group formed in 1980 to fight construction, and went to court in 1981 to try to stop the project. A new building was finished in 1981 in order to move some operations away from the planned location of the new hospital building. The suit was eventually dismissed in October 1981 by judge Robert C. Belloni, and in January 1982 the design of the new building was unveiled as construction started. The new building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, with W.B. Bateson Co. serving as the general contractor.

Adolescents and young adults facing cancer have special needs. The OHSU Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology Program was created to help. It is one of only a few programs in the United States focused exclusively on AYAs with cancer. We provide specialized care for people diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15-39. Our program provides consultation and supportive services of OHSU patients as well as patients who receive primary cancer care elsewhere in the community. In addition, or team of skilled doctors, nurses, and researchers are dedicated to developing more effective methods of diagnosis and treatment to assure longer, healthier lives for people diagnosed with cancer in this young stage of life. Mission As Oregon’s sole academic health center, we have lots of knowledge to offer. But social media is about sharing — it’s a conversation between you, your friends and family, and the doctors, nurses, students and scientists here at OHSU. OHSU Neonatal Research is a platform for the discussion of current research activities in the NICU at Oregon Health & Science University and around the globe. Our intention is to connect with other curious minds and expand the network of professionals we can all reach. This is not a resource for medical advice.
The Oregon Health & Science Unviersity Research & Academic Volunteer Services program registers approximately 550 volunteers annually between the ages of 16-89. These volunteers contribute over 200,000 hours of service annually. These incredible relationships not only contribute to the goals and missions of each area in which they serve, but by hosting these volunteers, OHSU carries out its institution-wide research,education, and outreach missions. Volunteers who come to OHSU gain valuable hands-on research experience, which may bolster their current or future education and career goals. Additionally, volunteers are often given the opportunity to network with established research scientists and medical professionals. Above all, volunteers gain a sense of accomplishment by giving back to OHSU, to their community, and to future generations who will benefit from medical research being conducted today.
Dr. Miriam Rose, MD has a General Medical Practice in Portland, Oregon where she partners with patients who are interested in finding Health rather than just treating disease. She provides individual cranial osteopathic treatments to adults, children and pregnant women. She also facilitates groups and teaches classes. These services help prepare women and couples for birth and parenting, help reduce or resolve pain, stress, anxiety, trauma, as well as addressing other health concerns.
Dr. Tunick, a 1980 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, is a member of multiple national honor societies and has countless hours of postgraduate education in orthopedics, neurology, biomechanics, ergonomics, disability examination, physical medicine and therapeutics and clinical nutrition; as well as diagnostic imaging including MRI and CT scan, nuclear bone imaging and thermography. He holds chiropractic licenses in Oregon, Hawaii and New Jersey. Dr. Tunick has served on the Peer Review Committe of the Hawaii State Chiropractic Association, past President of the Maui County Chiropractic Society, and is a member of multiple chiropractic professional organizations and continues to attend post graduate education courses throughout the year.
