Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano has tapped celebrated Chicago Chef John Hogan to serve as executive chef. Together, they will create a diverse collection of shareable plates that may start the meal or accompany the main chicken, beef and fish entrees. The restaurant’s heart is the bustling kitchen, centrally located for guests to see the action as dishes are prepared. Lou Mitchell's, also known as Lou Mitchell's Restaurant, is a Chicago diner located at 565 W. Jackson Boulevard. It is a popular restaurant for commuters, as it is located near Union Station. It is also located near the start of U.S. Route 66 and was frequented by many people on the start of their journey along the road, earning it the nickname "the first stop on the Mother Road." In May 2002, the Nationwide Route 66 restoration program was launched at Lou Mitchell's. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.Founded in 1923, Lou Mitchell's is known for handing out fresh donut holes to people waiting in line, boxes of Milk Duds to children, an orange slice and prune for breakfast, and a small cup of ice cream with each meal. Their egg dishes are made using double yolk eggs, which they claim makes the eggs larger and fluffier.Lou Mitchell's has been owned by Heleen Thanasouras. She appeared as the guest judge for the Quickfire Challenge of Episode 11 of Top Chef (season 4), which involved working at "the hull", or egg station, at the restaurant for twenty minutes.In November 2015, Heleen died at age 63.

She started her career in New York working for a publishing division of CBS and then went into magazine publishing where she was a Promotion Editor for VOGUE magazine. After 7 years with VOGUE, Robin decided to pursue her desire to promote unknown and gifted artists and began doing so in 1988 after her first child was born. Robin’s 8 years in the publishing industry gave her the promotion background needed to start her art business, The Mumford Collection LLC. Robin procures art and design elements for residences and corporations. She is responsible for all aspects of commissioning, procuring, and installing site-specific art for her clients. "Art is a wonderful part of life. To discover art that is inspiring and absolutely perfect for my clients is truly exciting. I view my work as a vocation. There are many gifted artists waiting to be discovered. To find them is thrilling. It is important for such artists to be able to support themselves with their respective talents. Success sustains them economically, spiritually and emotionally. I have been told that my passion for art is contagious. I view that as a good thing!" Robin has been featured multiple times in the Chicago Tribune and Home Design Magazine. She has volunteered with Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and has sponsored young artists workshops.
