Indeed, it has been ratified by the famous historian Daniel Webster that it was in The Green Dragon that the plans for the invasion of Lexington and Concord were overheard, thus starting the famous ride of Paul Revere. Today The Green Dragon still plays host to a diverse and colorful clientele, though the practice of eavesdropping has long since stopped! Durgin Park

340 Faneuil Hall Market Pl
Boston, MA 02109

The origin of Durgin-Park and it's typically Yankee recipes goes back to the pre-revolutionary days. In 1742 Peter Faneuil the topmost merchant in town, erected a large market house near the waterfront. Soon afterward, a warehouse was built which housed a small dining room that catered to market men, and the crews of ships anchored in Boston Harbor. Around 180 years ago, one of the customers, Eldridge Park, bought the restaurant with local merchants, John Durgin and John Chandler. Although both Mr. Durgin and Mr. Park died with in a few years of purchasing the restaurant, their partner retained their memory by naming it Durgin-Park. Mr. Chandler spent the next 63 years running Durgin-Park with his son and grandson, Jerry Chandler. When Jerry was killed in WWII, the restaurant was sold to James Hallett who put the poem "Just a Boy" on the back of the menu to honor Jerry and all the fallen soldiers of that war. It remains there to this day. James Hallett and his infamous staff of playfully short-tempered waitresses served the freshest fish, meats and produce one could find in Boston, not to mention the famous Boston Baked Beans. In 1976, he sold Durgin-Park to the Kelley/Solimondo family who toned down the waitresses to sassy, but continued the tradition of nothing but the freshest Yankee Fare that could be found in Boston.

At The Merchant, we make almost all our fare from scratch. Executive chef Matt Foley previously worked at both Craigie on Main in Cambridge and Sycamore in Newton. The Merchant is a big space that served for more than a century as a leather store. We've brought in high-top tables near the windows ... a 40-foot bar on one side of the room … and more formal dining spots on the opposite side. We have a semi-private dining room in back, and another dining room downstairs. For our menu, Chef Foley cures and smokes all the meat in house. Our burger is top-notch, as are other dishes like steak and eggs, sweetbread nuggets, and “rustic” desserts. The Merchant serves salads, sandwiches ($10-$12), and more for the lunch rush. And for dinner, we are a full-service brasserie (with most entrees ranging from $20-$24). The bar has 36 beers on tap, many of them locally brewed, plus a full selection of craft cocktails to serve our patrons, especially the after-work crowd. Our raw bar is open from 11 am till closing, part of a late-night menu that will change each night.

Boston is an enormously passionate city, spirited debate is practically our fifth major sport. While we may respectfully part ways on nearly everything, including that necktie of yours, public opinion is squarely behind the 21st Amendment. The 21st has elevated the "neighborhood pub" concept high above Beacon Hill by infusing our spin on traditional pub classics while carving out our own culinary history. When both locals and visitors are seen rubbing, okay, bending elbows in the same room, it's obvious that the quality of the food and the company has transcended party lines. Come spend some time with us at the 21st and see where Beacon Hill Meets!

Boston's Old City Hall was home to its city council from 1865 to 1969. It was one of the first buildings in the French Second Empire style to be built in the United States. After the building's completion, the Second Empire style was used extensively elsewhere in Boston and for many public buildings in the United States, such as the Old Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C., as well as other city halls in Providence, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The building's architects were Gridley James Fox Bryant and Arthur Gilman.HistoryOld City Hall, built between 1862 and 1865, is located at 45 School Street, along the Freedom Trail between the Old South Meeting House and King's Chapel. The Boston Latin School operated on the site from 1704 to 1748, and on the same street until 1844.Also on the site, the Suffolk County Courthouse was erected in 1810 and converted to Boston's second city hall in 1841, being replaced by the current building twenty-four years later. Thirty-eight Boston mayors, including John F. Fitzgerald, Maurice J. Tobin, and James Michael Curley, served their terms of office on School Street at this site over a period of 128 years.

Built in 1927, the Omni Parker House is a historic hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The original Parker House Hotel opened on the site on October 8, 1855, making it the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States. Additions and alterations were made to the original building starting only five years after its opening. Between 1866 and 1925, the hotel increased in size with new stories and additions, eventually expanding its footprint over 41,400 square feet of land—the bulk of the city lot bordered by Tremont, School, and Bosworth Streets and Chapman Place. Founder Harvey D. Parker ran the hotel until his death in 1884, when the business passed on to his partners. Subsequent proprietors of the Parker House were Edward O. Punchard and Joseph H. Beckman (1884–1891), Joseph Reed Whipple and the J. R. Whipple Corporation (1891–1933), Glenwood Sherrard (1933–1968), the Dunfey family (1968–1996), and Robert Rowling of TRT Holdings (1996–present). Omni Parker House, Boston, is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is currently under study for becoming a Boston Landmark.History19th centuryOpened in 1855 by Harvey D. Parker and located on School Street near the corner of Tremont, not far from the seat of the Massachusetts state government, the hotel has long been a rendezvous for politicians. The hotel was home to the Saturday Club, which met on the fourth Saturday of every month, except during July, August, and September. Among the Saturday Club’s nineteenth-century members were poet, essayist, and preeminent transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson, poet and The Atlantic Monthly editor James Russell Lowell, scientist Louis Agassiz, novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne, poets John Greenleaf Whittier and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, diplomat Charles Francis Adams, historian Francis Parkman, and sage-about-town Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
