Founded in 1825, the National Academy is the only institution of its kind that integrates a museum, art school and association of artists and architects dedicated to creating and preserving a living history of American art and architecture. To learn more, please visit www.nationalacademy.org. Although the museum has closed as of June 1, 2016, our staff, collection care, and National Academician annual inductions and elections will operate while we find a new home for our museum and extensive permanent collection. Our school remains open at 5 E. 89th St.
Founded in 1993, Christie’s Education New York is located in Rockefeller Center, alongside Christie's auction house, at 1230 Avenue of the Americas, based on the 20th Floor. Christie's Education New York was originally located in Midtown Manhattan and moved in August 2016 to be closer to the auction house. Christie's Education New York is accredited by the New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education in their capacity as a nationally recognised accrediting agency. Christie’s Education New York carries out the Christie’s Education commitment to direct contact with original works of art through visits to Christie’s salerooms and well as private and public collections. Christie's Education New York offers a Master of Arts degree and continuing education programmes including certificates and short courses.
Little Picasso NYC is a children’s art studio. It is a place where children can have fun, get messy,create and experiment with studio and visual arts. The youngest group of children being 2 years old and up to NO LIMITS in age, they are taught to think outside the box and venture into their own magical world of pure imagination while exposed to studio skills at their age appropriate level. It is not an arts and crafts establishment. It is an artists studio for budding young artists. My name is Isabella Grossman, founder of Little Picasso NYC. Inspired by my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter Novella, I have established the studio back in May of 2011. I have lived in China for several years running and managing a company that manufactures women’s fine accessories and related sportswear separates made of Eco-friendly fabrics and materials. Acted as the head designer, chief production officer and CFO, I was faced with the challenge of having to make a decision when I learned that my daughter was about to become the mother of my first grand child: Do I go back home and face the uncertainties of a tough economy, in competition with young college graduates working at entry level internship positions for what ever jobs might be available, if any, be the grandmother, or keep my ideal job in Guangzhou until retirement? I had no life, married to my job and working on the average of 15 hours a day – It was time to come home! My worst fears came to be: Looking for work, overqualified and middle aged my resources were dwindling while watching Novella grow up. Spending every precious moment available with her and grooming her into a little young artist as soon as she was old enough to stand up and grab things. Forced to work at odd jobs and freelance gigs (not too many available – the jobs were in China) I was creating a Little Picasso without realizing it. My daughter was watching us with joy when she dropped the brilliant brainstorm idea shortly before Novella’s 2nd birthday. “Mom stop looking for a job, the ideal job for you no longer exists in this country. Take what ever money you have left and do this for a living. Open up a children’s art studio – This is your calling” A month later Little Picasso NYC opened the doors to the public in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, one block south of where my granddaughter lives. I am home!
Art is crucial to children's development. It is undervalued in our society and underfunded in our schools. I believe it is vital to foster and cultivate creativity in children through drawing and painting. These techniques will allow for individual expression is now more important in our increasingly digital world. Simple artistic activities are integral building blocks of child development. Art has proven to develop the following areas in young children: MOTOR SKILLS LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT DECISION MAKING VISUAL LEARNING CULTURAL AWARENESS IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE S.P.A.R.K. was created to foster that the same passion for art with the next generation. As early as age 4, I was on the floor drawing. That seed was given life by exposure to the arts as I grew up. I fondly remember art classes being the best part of school where I learned the various medium and methods. In addition to technique and form, I want to expose the children to the most famous artists of our time. Living in New York City, we are extremely fortunate to have access to some of the greatest works of art in the world, which will be a part of my unique curriculum. I'm bringing a completely new approach to after school programs as well as Saturday mornings!
Accounting Society of Hunter College(ASHC) is dedicated to serving the needs and interests of students majoring in Accounting. We organize a variety of events and activities that expose students to different opportunities in the Accounting field. Our activities include career opportunity events,speaker engagements, and professional development workshops. Every year ASHC participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. ASHC coordinates with IRS sponsors, trains ASHC members, and hosts the VITA program on campus.
Psychology is concerned with all aspects of the study of behavioral, developmental and cognitive processes, and employs a broad spectrum of approaches, from the social to the biological, to understand them. The Hunter College psychology program reflects the diversity of psychology as a science and as a profession. Its course offerings span this spectrum, from clinical, social and developmental psychology to experimental psychology, ethology, biopsychology and behavioral neuroscience. Students have personal contact with faculty through an extensive advisement system, involvement in departmental activities and committees, supervised field placement, and participation in research laboratories under the guidance of faculty mentors as part of our independent study, honors and COR (Career Opportunities in Research and Education) programs. A broad range of applied research opportunities are available within the department in developmental psychology, social psychology, human adjustment, animal behavior, physiological psychology and abnormal psychology. Departmental affiliations with mental health and community organizations make it possible for students to integrate their academic studies of personality, abnormal and child psychology with supervised practical experience by means of field placements and opportunities for applied research. Hunter College offers two Master’s programs: a MA in Psychology and a MA in Animal Behavior and Conservation (ABC). The Master’s program in Psychology allows students to tailor their studies and thesis work toward the areas of Applied, Developmental Social and/or Biological Psychology. The Master’s in ABC is designed for students interested in the fields of Animal Behavior, Conservation, and Animal Welfare. Hunter College also offers a Certificate program in ABC (registered with the New York State Education Department) open to post-baccalaureate students who by virtue of prior education or experience are qualified for additional training. The CUNY doctoral program in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience is housed at Hunter College. Qualified undergraduate students in their senior year may be admitted to graduate courses with the approval of the instructor and the department's graduate advisor. The presence of graduate programs at Hunter increases opportunities for undergraduates to interact and work with graduate students in research laboratories.

StageCoach Theatre Arts was established 1988 in London, England. StageCoach is the Largest Part-Time Performing Arts School in the World. We ensure that each child gets the most out of their experience by building life skills and confidence while having lots of fun. Worldwide over 40,000 students participate in a StageCoach dance, drama and singing class every Saturday morning.
The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute is dedicated to innovative approaches to teaching, research, and public programming. Located in the heart of New York City, the institute provides a platform from which high quality scholarship effectively informs and influences public debate and public life.
The LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center at Roosevelt House was founded in 2008 by Hunter College faculty with interest in utilizing their research to improve public policy for LGBTQ individuals and communities. Our mission is built upon their vision for creating bridges between researchers and the policy arena. The Center is rooted in interdisciplinary social science and comprised of an Executive Committee, Hunter Advisory Board, CUNY Research Board, and an active student policy group (AQuIPS) https://www.facebook.com/aquipshunter. All board members are social science researchers or policy faculty with expertise in LGBTQ issues or in gender and sexuality more broadly. The mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Social Science & Public Policy Center is to support social science and policy research on LGBT issues to inform policy decisions; to disseminate findings to inform public opinion and promote LGBT social, health, and political equity; and to provide LGBT policy academic training and practicum opportunities for Hunter students. We aim to: Address the key current LGBT policy issues in New York City, New York State, the United States, and Internationally Create a public platform for social scientists and policy scholars to contribute to public policy discussions Increase the visibility of LGBT policy-relevant research Foster collaboration and collegiality between CUNY researchers and policy scholars addressing LGBT policy issues across campuses Support social science and policy faculty in their LGBT research and in making their work accessible to a broader audience LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center holds public symposia on pressing policy issues bringing together policy makers with researchers in the field, book talks with social scientists writing on key LGBTQ social issues, brown bags featuring the work of board members, and policy round tables. Board members serve as experts in policy hearings, consult on the drafting of legislation, produce policy white papers, and teach their students about engaged scholarship. We also support a student policy group (AQuIPS), offer undergraduate classes, and an intensive undergraduate fellowship program. Education sociologist Dr. Elizabethe Payne currently serves as Interim Director. Her Queering Education Research Institute (QuERI) http://www.queeringeducation.org is now housed in the LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center. The LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center is located in Hunter’s Casa Lally, 132 East 65th Street, on the third floor. It is two blocks east on 65th Street from Roosevelt House. For the performing arts student, New York City is the place to begin, to learn, to grow, and to be seen. The student who chooses the Theatre Arts programs at Marymount Manhattan College wants something special: professional theatre training combined with a strong liberal arts education in Manhattan. The Theatre Arts programs offer men and women individualized attention and a strong faculty advisement program. This enables qualified students to take on substantial projects and roles beginning with their first year. The Theatre Arts programs can be augmented by choosing a minor in Musical Theatre, Arts Management, or Communication Arts, as well as in many other areas. Independent study projects provide opportunities for specialized training and performance experience. Junior and senior level students may also study abroad for credit at schools such as the British Academy of Dramatic Arts (BADA) or the Drama Studio in London. Internships in a variety of settings (Broadway, Off and Off-Off Broadway, television, dance) develop experience and a potential employment network in the NYC performing arts community. Outside of the classroom, our students publish the Marymount Manhattan Review, experience the vibrant literary culture of New York City, and intern throughout the metro area, including at The New York Times and other prestigious newspapers, magazines, and media outlets. Our alumni succeed in graduate school and in countless professions and have even published award-winning novels.
