Lillian’s Italian Kitchen opened quietly on July 4, 2007. It’s a joint venture of the owners, Joe and Charlotte Moreno and their sons Chris and Matt. Long time residents of Santa Cruz, the Moreno’s dream was to open a neighborhood place that was an extension of their family kitchen. The inspiration was Grandma Lilly’s wonderful home cooking. Lillian was devoted to family and friends and her life was greatly fulfilled by her love and passion for cooking. Born in Yonkers, New York, Lillian was able to combine traditional Sicilian recipes learned from her parents and the many Italian influences in her neighborhood. Chef Chris honors Lillian’s family recipes as well as offering a variety of fresh and creative additions to the menu while Matt makes sure guests feel at home. Using only the finest fresh, local organic ingredients, it is their pleasure to share the simple goodness that is Italian cooking, with recipes straight from the homeland. Locally owned and operated since 2007, the Firefly Coffee House is proud to be your neighborhood coffee shop. Owner/entrepreneur Caitlin Parker had a vision of creating someplace in Santa Cruz that did not exist: a comfortable place that served amazing local coffee, tasty food, affordable prices, and a friendly atmosphere. So, in September of 2006 Caitlin and some great friends began construction in an old taxicab dispatch center. They didn’t have much money, and had zero construction skills….but they made it work. From the handmade counter to the funky tile job, to the brightly colored paint, they had finally built the Firefly. We may look a little eclectic, but every inch of this "little coffee shop that could" is founded on love, sweat, and laughs from our family and friends. Next came the people. They came from far and wide to gather round our fire. They found artists, business people, creative minds, families, and much more. These amazing people have made the Firefly what it is today. A place where all can come and be on a level playing ground. The Firefly is always shifting and evolving, but one thing is certain: it will always have the same comfortable faces, and there is always room at the bar.
