Practitioners: Katrina McLaughlin earned her Master of Acupuncture degree from the Boulder campus of Southwest Acupuncture College. This three year accelerated program consisted of 2,525 hours of education including 1042 hours of clinical practice. As part of her program Katrina completed a certification course in Clean Needle Technique, an externship in sports medicine at the University of Colorado Boulder campus in the athletic department, an externship in geriatrics at Golden West Senior Living, and an internship at the Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine in Harbin, China. Katrina passed three national board exams, is certified as a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is licensed by the state of Colorado to practice acupuncture. Katrina’s training includes adjunctive therapies such as moxibustion, tuina, shiatsu, acupressure, cupping, electrical stimulation, injection therapy, auriculotherapy, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and essential oils.

Robbin Tallow received her Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver, Colorado. She is also board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as a Diplomate in Acupuncture, encompassing acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and traditional Chinese medical theory. Upon graduation, Robbin continued her Chinese medical studies at the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou, China. In addition, she holds the title of licensed acupuncturist by the state of Colorado. Robbin is also a licensed massage therapist in the state of Colorado. She received her Certificate from the Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado in 2003.

More details about our procedures: Trigger Point Injections (TPI): Trigger points are focal, hyperirritable spots located in a taut band of skeletal muscle. The spots are painful on compression and can produce referred pain, referred tenderness, motor dysfunction, and autonomic phenomena. Injections of various non-steroidal solutions can release these chronic taut muscle bands and trigger points to allow relaxation of regional myofascial tissues. Dr. Barré uses a combination of dilute Lidocaine and Serapin (an extract of the pitcher plant) or homeopathics such as Traumeel. Some sensitive patients benefit from simple B12 plus Saline. Dry Needling: Dry Needling is a skilled intervention that uses a fine acupuncture needle to treat myofascial trigger points. By combining trigger point injections with dry needling, it is possible to “deactivate” the regional trigger points and release taut myofascial bands, stimulate regional blood flow and thus restore balanced, healthy myofascial tissues. Joint, tendon, ligament and other joint-structure injections: Chronic myofascial banding along with habituated patterns of painful guarding and splinting often lead to stress, friction and painful strain on regional joint structures. Injections of Lidocaine and the homeopathic medicine, Zeel, can relieve inflammation and pain in irritated joints. In some cases, dilute steroid may be indicated to “calm” severe inflammation. Hyaluronic acid injections into the knee promote cartilage restoration and repair. These injections are particularly effective when combined with trigger point therapy. Acupuncture: The ancient art of acupuncture has been used in Asia for centuries to treat many conditions, including relieving pain. It's now being used in the United States and other Western countries to ease lower back pain, shingles and other nerve pain, hand and knee pain, headache, fibromyalgia, and menstrual pain. Traditional Chinese acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin at specific “acupoints”. Pain relief is achieved through several mechanisms, not all of which are fully understood, though it is well established that acupuncture causes the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkilling chemicals, and stimulates the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved with mood. Electro-acupuncture: Electrical stimulation of acupuncture needles can be used to further enhance the acupuncture effects and to stimulate muscle healing, and facilitate strengthening. A low frequency current through the inserted needles causes the muscle to contract. Changes in the current setting will allow for a more forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood flow to the target area, assisting in healing. Hot packs / Heat Therapy: Following injection and dry needling therapy, hot packs therapy for 10 minutes provides further muscle relaxation and minimization of post-procedural pain and inflammation.
