Arts education has been a Lincoln Center priority since its founding, and the establishment of Lincoln Center Institute in 1975 made Lincoln Center a leader in integrating the arts into school curricula and training teachers to use the arts as a teaching tool. Inspired by a campus redevelopment effort that has succeeded in drawing broader audiences to Lincoln Center’s reimagined physical spaces, Lincoln Center recognized that rethinking and revitalizing its work in arts education would enhance its impact and expand its reach to underserved communities. In September 2012, Lincoln Center welcomed Russell Granet as the Institute’s new Executive Director. A renowned advocate for arts education and a veritable leader in the field, Mr. Granet organized a major planning effort to determine the future of Lincoln Center’s educational programming that included retreats for Lincoln Center staff and Institute Board members; teaching artist town hall sessions; school visits; and meetings with staff, Board and educators. This process led to a new vision and strategic plan for bringing Lincoln Center educational offerings together as the Lincoln Center Education (LCE) family of programs. Operating under the direction of Mr. Russell Granet, Lincoln Center Education encompasses all the institution’s educational activities in schools and in the community. LCE is also launching a variety of new and important projects for bringing the arts to underserved populations and for making advancements in the field of arts education that will help LCE to better serve its audiences and to develop strategies that can be shared nationally and internationally.
New York City's only K-8 public school for musically gifted children Special Music School at Kaufman Music Center (P.S. 859) is a groundbreaking public school for musically gifted children offering musical training, including private instrumental lessons, during the regular school day. The school combines intensive instrumental study with a rigorous academic program, providing a strong foundation for a lifetime of music without compromising academic studies. Modeled on the renowned special music schools of the former Soviet Union, Special Music School at Kaufman Music Center successfully ensures that music is a primary component of each child's education. Founded in 1996, Special Music School represents a unique public/private partnership between Kaufman Center, a nonprofit multi-arts organization, and the New York City Department of Education, which funds the academic portion of the students’ education. The music program is fully funded by Kaufman Music Center through private contributions. As with all public schools, tuition is free to residents of the residents of the five boroughs of New York City. The music program goes from kindergarten through grade 12.

As we reflect on how the Gospel has broken our shackles to sin, likewise we should be motivated to see others set free physically and spiritually. Together we can see freedom come to those enslaved overseas and across the street.
The Metropolitan New York Baptist Association (MNYBA) is a family of churches of diverse sizes, ethnicities, languages, and contexts that cooperate together to make disciples of all people. These churches meet in apartments, public schools, warehouses, renovated office space, rented facilities and various church buildings in a 75-mile radius from Times Square, in a region of 22 million people. Our churches range in size from a handful of people to thousands of members. We worship in more than 20 different languages. We are committed to offering all people the most culturally appropriate expression of a New Testament church. Our passion is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the Greater New York City Metropolitan Area, and to transform communities through His life-changing power.

The Manhattan New York Temple was the second high-rise temple of the Church, following the Hong Kong China Temple (1996). The Manhattan New York Temple was the second temple built in the state of New York, following the Palmyra New York Temple (2000). The Manhattan New York Temple was the third temple built from an existing building, following the Vernal Utah Temple (1997) and the Copenhagen Denmark Temple (2004). The temple is virtually a building within a building, which is completely soundproofed from the hustle and bustle of the City. The original building was a multi-purpose stake center built in 1976. The cornerstone of the Manhattan New York Temple is located within the multi-purpose building but on an exterior wall of the temple. The joint announcement of the Boston Massachusetts Temple and the White Plains New York Temple (later called the Harrison New York Temple) replaced the Church's previously announced plans to build a temple in Hartford, Connecticut, to serve both New York and New England. President Gordon B. Hinckley read from his journal at a member meeting, testifying of the inspiration of the Lord in locating a temple for the New-York-City-area saints in Manhattan, noting that the efforts of the previous six years to build a temple in Harrison, New York, had repeatedly met the strong opposition of neighbors. Door handles shaped like the Statue of Liberty torch are found throughout the Manhattan New York Temple. The Manhattan New York Temple received exceptional media coverage, including international coverage, largely due to its location in one of the most influential cities of the world. The widely publicized public open house of the Manhattan New York Temple was attended by over 53,000 guests. Temple History: In a special regional conference held in New York City on March 24, 2002, President Gordon B. Hinckley told the attending congregation that he expected a temple to be completed in New York within two years. Less than five months later, the Church's announcement of a temple to be built in Manhattan made good on that promise.1 In a clever adaption, the Church gutted and soundproofed the upper and lower floors of its existing multi-function Manhattan building, located across from the Lincoln Center, to secure a location for the temple in the city. The original building was completed in 1976 during a transition period for the area from rough to ritzy. This high-rise approach to temple building was first pioneered in Hong Kong where real estate costs are exorbitant.2 In the decade preceding the temple dedication, New York area membership increased dramatically, tripling to 42,000. The rapid growth was largely attributed to immigration and aggressive proselytizing in black and Latino communities.3 Over 53,000 visitors from all walks of life and religious backgrounds attended the 40-minute tour during the monthlong open house. Though some mild sidewalk protesting was seen in the form of anti-Mormon literature, public reaction was highly positive, and media coverage was worldwide.4 Prior to the temple dedication, a cast of 2,400 New York youth gathered at Radio City Music Hall to perform "A Standard to the Nations," a two-hour jubilee performance full of song and dance, which briefly illustrated the history of the Church in New York and recognized the cultural mix there. President Gordon B. Hinckley started the custom of asking young adults to participate in cultural arts programs to celebrate temple dedications as part of his quest to make church more engaging for youth. New York youth kept the tradition going, following the example of members in Alaska, Ghana, and Denmark, who performed before their temples' dedications.5 At the temple dedication, a time capsule was placed in the cornerstone filled with New York memorabilia including a commemorative gold-detailed white satin handkerchief patterned after a handkerchief Joseph Smith commissioned for the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. The capsule also contained a copy of the New York Times, a commemorative crystal, a set of LDS scriptures, sheet music, and more.6 Just two-and-a-half weeks before the temple's summer dedication, the Church announced that it would be adding a steeple and statue to the building that fall. Hundreds of onlookers filled the streets of Manhattan on Saturday, October 9, 2004, to witness the placement of the 10-foot angel Moroni upon the spire of the temple.

Sim Shalom is the world's largest regularly attended online synagogue. We offer Online Synagogue Services Monday through Friday evenings at 7PM. Our Services are led by Rabbi Steven Blane, Rabbis ordained through Sim Shalom's affiliated Rabbinical School, JSLI- The Jewish Spiritual Leader's Institute and lay leaders. Each year, Sim Shalom also offers High Holiday Services at different venues in New York City.
Our rabbinical seminary's curriculum is built around weekly online video conferences which allow us to meet together with students from around the world. At each session, we join together in prayer (Daven), explore the weekly Torah portion and discuss Halacha and relevant Rabbinic Responsa. Each class also focuses on Jewish rituals and life-cycles. JSLI's focus is as a rabbinical school which trains clergy to minister to the specific needs of almost 50% of the USA's Jewish population- the Jewish unaffiliated and interfaith. Today's liberal Jewish world calls out for a new paradigm in the training of it's clergy. Our spiritual leaders learn to teach basic Talmud and Torah, lead prayer services, give inspirational sermons, provide pastoral care, officiate at weddings and funerals, and so much more.
