History of Omnitech Omnitech Institute was founded under the name of Omnitech Solutions with the goal of providing quality occupational training at affordable pricing while providing the highest quality instructor led courses in Metro Atlanta. In September 2002 the name was formally changed with the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (NPEC) to Omnitech Institute. In the fall of 1998, the first classes were taught utilizing contracted classroom space at another institution until the previous location at 4319 Covington Highway in the North Center Business Complex was leased. Omnitech Institute started with only one office suite, which held a classroom, break room, receptionist area and an office. The first program administered in this facility was the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certificate Program, which began in June 1999 with an enrollment of twelve. The program was designed to provide students with knowledge and skills required for industry certification and training to secure employment in the IT field. Omnitech received its first business license in the spring of 1999 and has since maintained its license to operate. In the fall of 2000, Omnitech expanded its facility by leasing two additional suites in the North Center Business Complex. The additional space included a testing center, two classrooms, a larger receptionist and lobby area, Financial Services office, Enrollment Services office and a Career Services office. Omnitech held its first graduation ceremony on December 16, 1999 in the Banquet Hall of the North Center Complex. The ceremony recognized all students who completed a program through December 1999. The normal class load is twenty-five hours per week for day students and sixteen hours for evening students. Twelve (12) hours is considered full time for a student. Omnitech operates on a twelve-month academic calendar and a standard clock hour system. The average enrollment for a typical year is approximately 350 students. Upon completion of a program students will receive a certificate of completion from Omnitech Institute. In May 2001, OTS Inc (Short for Omnitech Solutions) was incorporated with the State of Georgia and has since filed to do business as Omnitech Institute. A copy of the Institutes charter and by-laws are documented for the visiting team in Exhibit A. Omnitech Institute holds a business license with the DeKalb County Division of Internal Auditing and Licensing in the State of Georgia. Since 1999, Omnitech has grown in student population as well as staff which made it necessary to search for a new location. In 2011, under the leadership of its founder and visionary, Charlton C. Lester, the search began for a new building that would allow such growth and expansion. For a span of 14 years, Omnitech Institute occupied several suites at 4319 Covington Highway, and because there were several other businesses within the building that we occupied it became very challenging for the growth of the existing programs as well as new programs. In November 2012, Omnitech Institute moved from Covington Hwy to 1728 Montreal Circle. While this location offered Omnitech its own space, over time it proved to be a decision that did not best serve us. One month after moving in, the plumbing went bad in all of the restrooms, there was leakage on the roof that transferred to the classrooms, and the list continues. The landlords of the facility refused to fix the many, many problems that occurred shortly after moving in; once more, we were faced with the challenge of finding a new location. After months of searching, on April1, 2014, Omnitech began teaching classes in its new location at 1800 Phoenix Blvd. Atlanta, GA 30349. This location is a new area for Omnitech, but after careful thought and planning which included meeting with both the students and staff, we felt confident that we would continue to grow strong in the new area. We have been in this location for over a year now and are very pleased with the facilities and the location. We believe that we can now begin to cultivate and expand our programs. We service a large population of people who do not have high school diplomas or GED’s and with that we offer tutoring to those who want it at no cost as we assist them to prepare for their GED. Omnitech Institute is currently authorized by the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission of Georgia to offer the following program: Medical Assistant, Network Engineering, and Digital Media Specialization. We also offer some courses a la carte such as: A+ and Cisco Network Administrator. Methods of instruction include lectures and labs. Courses are offered during the day and the evening. Omnitech receives annual authorization for renewal of these programs and any updates to programs. While change has been constant during the history of Omnitech, it is apparent that the school has and still strives to offer the best in career training lectures and hands on lab experience in its instructional delivery. With the complete participation of the staff, community partnerships, and the collaboration of business, industry and educational groups, Omnitech will continue to promote individual student development and improve the quality of life in the communities that we serve. Community Characteristics Omnitech Institute is now located in College Park, Georgia, serving South Atlanta and the Metro Atlanta Area which includes the following counties: Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fayette and Clayton. Omnitech found that a great majority of its student population came from these areas and made the decision to relocate. According to the 2000 Census Redistricting Data, over 4.1 million people call the Metro Atlanta Area home. In 2000 the census found that 61.4% of the population was African American, 33.2% white, 4.5%hispanic or Latino, 1.9% Asian, 1.2% two or more races, and 0.2% American Indian and Alaska native. The demographics of Metro Atlanta are varied and diverse. Although DeKalb County has a majority African American population, the metro area has a larger Caucasian, Hispanic, and other non-American presence. Omnitech recognizes the diversity challenges of its service area and provides faculty and staff training on cultural sensitivity. Omnitech has a proactive attitude towards diversity in its educational program and community.
