Opportunity Village was founded in 1954 by seven dedicated, committed and loving families who were determined to give their children with disabilities the best lives possible. And now, almost 60 years later, Opportunity Village is one of the most recognized and respected Community Habilitation Programs in the United States. Since these humble origins, Opportunity Village has grown to become Nevada’s favorite – the largest private, not-for-profit community habilitation program, serving nearly 3,000 people annually through vocational training, community employment, day services, advocacy and arts and social recreation. Here, people with disabilities are able to find new friends, realize future career paths, seek independence and community integration and unleash creative passions – all they want is a chance at a life we all take for granted. Opportunity Village is Nevada’s largest employer of people with disabilities - people who were previously considered unemployable. Many of them work at Opportunity Village’s Employment Resource Centers and in jobs throughout the community, collectively earning wages amounting to more than $7.6 million in 2012. They’re hard-working and diligent, proudly paying taxes and happily leading more fulfilling lives. The Las Vegas area is home to Opportunity Village’s three campuses, all of which share common programs. Opportunity Village will soon celebrate its 60th Anniversary, and with your help, we resolve to continue building upon our proud tradition of enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities in southern Nevada for another 60 years – and beyond.
