fort gondo compound for the arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community arts forum founded in 2002. Our approach to programming is borrowed from the socioeconomic model of microlending: we offer small loans of time and space to under-recognized artists -- or artists wishing to realize otherwise unrealizable projects -- whose exceptional merit has been otherwise overlooked by mainstream organizations.

Kismet is a duo of dreamers doing all the things their favorite forerunners imbued in them. Sonia, for instance, worked at a Recycling Center where she learned to utilize materials donated from the community to use toward creative play, engaging whole families or one child at a time. More impressively, Sonia has worked at Art City in City Museum for 11 years. She celebrated her 11th year July 2 of 2014. Tom, on the other hand, was inspired by a shop in Omaha, NE Called the Antiquarium that sold records, books and art and provided a safe place for locals to hang out, drink coffee, read books, play chess, and philosophize. Later on in life, inspired by said cultural center, Tom moved to Durango, Colorado where he opened his own record store / art gallery / venue which lasted 4 years. A large part of Tom’s music collection comes from this endeavor. Following Durango, Tom moved to Denver where he worked at one of the finest record stores in the country for 2 more years.

Started in a vacant retail space in one of St. Louis' oldest neighborhoods, 1900 Park was born from a musicians desire to perform on his own terms and a curator's urge to create a unique listening environment for those that love music. Though still evolving, 1900 Park has become a place of immersion for appreciators of not only music, but also of art and photography as the curator pairs the visual and sonic together to create a distinctive experience. From the local and emerging to the national and touring, the musicians and artists are from all genres and mediums with one common trait; they share the vision of 1900 Park. When 1900 Park is not being utilized for these experiences, it is available for various uses; some of which have included plays and film screening to holiday and neighborhood parties. 1900 Park; a space for expression, experience and awakening.
We are both a retail storefront and a web based business featuring a carefully curated selection of Vintage Modern Furniture, Artwork, Accessories, & Interesting Artifacts. Each piece is carefully selected because of their quality and uniqueness. Each piece is restored to their best vintage condition, doing our best not to sacrifice its original look. We also have added 4 more dealers to our shop so that we can continue to bring a great selection of pieces to our customers as part of our Vintage Modern Collective. Because not all of the dealers items are available on our web site for sale we encourage our customers to follow us on Facebook to see all of the new additions to our shop daily. Emulating the historic Saint Petersburg art movement of early twentieth century Russia, Stray Dog Theatre derives its name from Brodyachaya Sobaka (Stray Dog) a legendary bohemian café frequented by the area’s most cutting edge artists. Every evening during the early 1900s, diverse audiences gathered to enjoy an evening of eclectic entertainment as the café played host to an array of actors, directors, playwrights, artists and poets. In recognition of the café‘s legacy, SDT seeks to enhance the theatre experience for all by encouraging a collaborative approach.

Minor Lament is St. Louis' first adolescent artifact sharing event held at Foam Coffee & Beer (Cherokee and Jefferson) every few months or when ever I say so. Here's how it works: 1. Find your old stuff i.e. diaries, notes, letters, poems, blogs, aim chats, etc. (you gotta have something). But, nothing too recent because then it's just sad. 2. Select no more than 6 minutes of content ideally authored by you. 3. Let us know you want to share ([email protected]) and show up! And by "share" we mean "read aloud before a room of judgmental strangers." But, I promise, we won't be laughing at you, we'll be laughing with you.
