The MCAO was one of the original projects funded by the Federal Community Development Act of 1974, and was set-up as a division within the Mayor’s Office. It was originally referred to as the Mayor’s Citizens’ Action Office. Over the past few decades, the MCAO has changed its name but remains focused on its original mission: community assistance and constituent services. Today, in its 35th year, the MCAO continues to assist the with the Mayor's chartered duties of directing and monitoring the efficient and responsive delivery of city services, responding to information and service inquiries, providing constituent services, and improving the quality of life for the citizens of Houston.
