The King’s College seeks ambitious students who want to make a difference in the world. The college aims to contribute to American society by producing graduates who command the important intellectual traditions, who think lucidly about the social and political issues that confront them today, who write with force and flair, who speak with eloquence, and who are eager to exchange ideas in open debate with those who espouse different views. The King’s College educates students to lead with principle as they aspire to make America better. We prepare students for principled leadership. And nothing else. Many selective colleges and universities, of course, have staked their claim to the word ‘leadership,’ so how does King’s differ? We mean something surprisingly difficult. Leadership to us requires facility in complex ideas and the sophistication to guide the strategic institutions of society: government, commerce, law, the media, civil society, education, the arts and the church. With a demanding curriculum and a campus in the heart of New York City, King’s is not for the timid soul. To accomplish this, the College teaches a compelling worldview rooted in the Bible and informed by close study of great works of philosophy, political theory, and economics. We study Paul and Plato; Moses and Machiavelli; Adam and Adam Smith.

INSPIRING CENTURIES OF SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS The New York Academy of Sciences’ core mission is to drive innovative solutions to society’s challenges by advancing scientific research, education, and policy. The Academy is an independent, non-government, not-for-profit organization founded in 1817. The Academy achieves its mission by catalyzing novel public private partnerships to address global problems. It creates and empowers expert panels to solve scientific challenges, advise governments, create and disseminate new knowledge, and inspire the next generation of scientists. NEW YORK TO THE WORLD Unique as a local institution that has grown globally, the Academy is a membership organization, advocating for both the scientific enterprise and the individual. It boasts 22,000+ members across 100 countries. It is deeply committed to the next generation, with nearly 8,000 students and postdoctoral members active in its community. The Academy is simultaneously democratic—open to all with a passion for science—and elite, with scores of Nobel Prize winners and corporate and government leaders playing key advisory roles in the Academy’s programs. AT THE FOREFRONT OF DISCOVERY The Academy has historically achieved and continues to make seminal contributions to the world's grand challenges. Its earliest work is marked by many firsts that have changed the course of scientific discourse and discovery, from landmark colloquia on antibiotics to HIV-AIDs, from the SARS crisis to the swine flu (H5N1). Academy conferences have led to the deeper understanding of scientific research, new treatments, and greater commitments across disparate groups to solve these tough challenges. GOVERNANCE Led by an international board of governors, the Academy draws from top academic and industry leaders that are representative of the Academy's diverse membership. In addition, the President's Council, with its complement of Nobel laureates, functions as an advisory board and bell weather for the Academy.

When we established Make-up Designory (MUD) in 1997, we shared a desire to create a place for higher learning in the field of make-up education. We wanted to create a place that supported the needs of the makeup industry. We also wanted to put our students first. MUD began in a two-classroom, 800 square-foot location in Toluca Lake, California. We started out offering courses in beauty make-up, character make-up and special make-up effects. After 3 years, we moved to cozy downtown Burbank and opened up a 5-classroom school complete with administrative offices, student store and photography studio. Today the school and store are still located in the same place, but we have moved the administrative offices next door to make room for 3 additional classrooms, a library and student lounge. We still offer courses in beauty, character and special make-up effects, and have added courses in hairstyling, airbrushing, portfolio development, some for non-professionals too! We also have a 10,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center in Valencia, CA that also houses our Corporate Headquarters. Not only did we expand locally, we expanded nationally. In 2005 we opened our East Coast branch in New York City. Our 4 classroom, office, and store loft space on a second floor in SoHo eventually grew to be 6 classrooms, separate offices plus a ground-level access retail space. 9 years later, we were again in need of even more space so we moved the school to the Financial District. Our current location occupies the entire 15th floor of the historic, 21- story American Express building and offers 9, classrooms, administrative offices, and a student store. And there’s more still to come! MUD is constantly expanding its reach with partner schools and MUD STUDIO locations from Asia to Europe and San Diego, CA to Giant Springs, MT. We are bringing our vision of excellence in make-up education to the world! Have we come a long way since Toluca Lake? Sure. Yet our founding philosophy still guides everything we do.

Every summer, students lose as much as 2 ½ to 3 ½ months of what they learned the year before. Come September, teachers spend up to 6 weeks re-teaching the materials that students have forgotten. This “summer slide” disproportionately affects children living in low-income neighborhoods, and research has shown that ⅔ of the academic achievement gap can be attributed to unequal access to summer learning opportunities. The traditional summer school model only aims to serves students who are already failing, leaving behind the millions more that still need help. Consequently, students perceive summer school as a punishment, creating an environment where students are not excited to learn and rarely even show up. Simply put: it is broken.
