The Beacon Arts Building, originally the home of the landmark Bekins Moving and Storage Company has been transformed into a workplace for creative professionals in the heart of the burgeoning Inglewood Arts District in Los Angeles County, adjacent to Culver City, California and just minutes from the I-10 Freeway. An iconic four-story, solid reinforced concrete structure, the Beacon Arts Building sits prominently on La Brea Avenue providing studio spaces for rent in a warehouse style environment from 150 to 1,000 square feet with dramatic 11’6” ceilings. Just minutes away from the Beacon Arts Building at 1019 W. Manchester Blvd. is the easily accessible sister project, 1019 WEST, offering gallery and creative work space for rent up to 550 square feet in a fertile environment for the creative process, promoting and accelerating the growth and visibility for promising young artists. The property was the location of the first Volkswagen automobile dealership in Southern California.
1019WEST is a dynamic complex of creative workspaces where 40 multi-disciplinary artists maintain studios. located in inglewood, just west of the 405 freeway, the building is situated in the middle of the larger creative community of the Beacon Arts Building, Otis College of Art and Design, and Loyola Marymount University. The now retrofit building and grounds were originally the location of the first VW dealership in Southern California. The Centinela Adobe, also known as La Casa de la Centinela, is a Spanish Colonial style adobe house built in 1834. It is operated as a house museum by the Historical Society of Centinela Valley, and it is one of the 43 surviving adobes within Los Angeles County, California. The Adobe was the seat of the 25,000-acre Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela, a Mexican Alta California era land grant partitioned from the Spanish Las Californias era Rancho Sausal Redondo. The Centinela Adobe, which is the Centinela Valley's oldest residence, was built by Ygnacio Machado in 1834. Since then, farmers, ranchers, a Scotsman, and Inglewood's founding father, Daniel Freeman, have lived in the structure. It is the oldest building in the area and has been called the \"Birthplace of Inglewood\".
