Natural Gourmet Institute’s 4800 square foot space occupies the entire 2nd floor and most of the 3rd floor at 48 West 21st Street in Manhattan. Our facilities include two teaching kitchens, one professional kitchen and two lecture rooms. All of our kitchens are outfitted with the highest grade restaurant quality equipment , including Vulcan heavy-duty restaurant ranges, Vulcan convection ovens and Traulsen and Continental reach-in refrigerators. We also have 2 large walk-in refrigerators on premises. NGI’s brand new 3rd floor space consists of a lecture room, new Career Services office and a 648 square foot teaching kitchen equipped with 4 Vulcan heavy duty restaurant ranges, 2 Vulcan convection ovens and a granite-topped center island holding 8 Garland burners. Track lights and Halophan pendants provide bright, non-glare illumination. Our teaching kitchens boast high tech video systems which include Panasonic plasma monitors, closed circuit TV and cameras capable of focusing on the cooking action and providing students with a direct view from anywhere in the room. In addition, we have recently installed a state-of-the-art sound system including Sennheiser wireless microphones, Crown amplifiers and Electro voice monitor speakers. All of our kitchens are equipped with Kitchen-Aid mixers, Cuisinart food processors and All-Clad Master Chef cookware.
French-American bistro Camaje (pronounced kah-mahj) is a cozy haven in the West Village for regulars and new friends alike. Intimate but casual, the restaurant offers a local, seasonal menu and a brand-new happy hour. It's also the home of NYC's famous blindfolded Dinners in the Dark. Relax at a table, sip a cocktail or a well-chosen wine, and take in the views of the historic townhouses of the Village (including Bob Dylan's former building across the street). Camaje was established in 1997 by chef-owner Abigail Hitchcock. Abby's favorite dishes, inspired by her regular trips to the Union Square greenmarket, include appetizers such as smokey hummus, entrées such as tender hanger steak and lamb tagine, and desserts such as the popular Banoffee Pie. Camaje also offers hands-on cooking classes (for one or for a whole group) as well as private and corporate events for up to 25 people. This station and 14th Street are the only two local stations on the Sixth Avenue Line.Station layoutThis station opened on December 15, 1940 as part of the opening of the IND Sixth Avenue Line from 47th–50th Streets – Rockefeller Center to West Fourth Street.There are two tracks and two side platforms; no crossover, crossunder or mezzanine exist to allow a free transfer between directions. The PATH tracks, which were built forty years before the Sixth Avenue Line, are behind the trackway walls where there would typically be the express tracks. The Sixth Avenue PATH tracks are on top of the express tracks, which were constructed in the mid-1960s using the "deep-bore" tunneling method and both are not visible from the station.
