The English High School of Boston, Massachusetts is one of the first public high schools in America, founded in 1821. Originally called The English Classical School, it was renamed The English High School upon its first relocation in 1824. The current building is located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.HistoryBoston English was created at the urging of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association and was modeled after the Royal High School in Edinburgh, Scotland. The School Committee to establish English High School was chaired by Samuel Adams Wells, grandson of former Governor Samuel Adams. Its first head master was Dr. George B. Emerson, an early leader in educational reform. English, like Boston Latin School, only admitted boys when established—although a separate high school for girls was established in Boston by Dr. Emerson in 1824. Boston English became coeducational in 1972, 151 year after its founding.Boston English has had seven locations. Its first site was on Derne Street at the rear of the Massachusetts State House, and is marked by a metal plaque. Its second home was a building (still standing) at the corner of Pinckney and Anderson Streets, which eventually became the Phillips School, a school for then free born and emancipated African-Americans before the American Civil War. From 1844 to 1922, Boston English was adjacent to the Boston Latin School, first near downtown Boston and then in a building (now demolished) on Warren Street in the South End. From 1954 to 1989, Boston English was at 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur, across the street from Boston Latin (78 Avenue Louis Pasteur). This site is now part of Harvard Medical School.
The Boston Latin School is a public "exam school" in Boston, Massachusetts. Established on April 23, 1635, it is the second oldest school (behind the Collegiate School in New York City, founded 1628) and the first public school in the United States. The Public Latin School was a bastion for educating the sons of the Boston "Brahmin" elite, resulting in the School claiming many prominent Bostonians, Massachusetts citizens and New Englanders as alumni. Its curriculum follows that of the 18th century Latin-school movement, which holds the "classics" to be the basis of an educated mind. Four years of Latin are mandatory for all pupils who enter the School in the 7th grade, three years for those who enter in the 9th. In 2007, the School was named one of the top twenty high schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The School was named a 2011 "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence", the U.S. Department of Education's highest award. As of 2016, the School is listed under the "gold medal" list, ranking 51 out of the top 100 high schools in the United States (more than 20,000 public high schools from 50 states and the District of Columbia were analyzed) by U.S. News & World Report magazine.

The Mosaic School West is a small early childhood program that invites children from all families to learn, explore, question and bond. We believe that each child is unique, naturally curious and ready for independence. This step in their development is crucial to the way we approach our curriculum. We look at each group enrolled and find the needs of each student. All children learn in their own unique way. At The Mosaic School West we will celebrate their need for autonomy, while challenging and supporting their needs to be social. We feel learning can be fun, challenging and successful. 15 months-5 years
In the Fall of 2013 I will start the school with one group of beginners. As I add a class of beginners each year, and that first group grows into advanced players, I hope to plan many fun events, and join in the exciting things that are happening in Jamaica Plain. I envision playing at first Thursdays, Wake up the Earth, and other local events.
