CAT is a student organization run by the Admissions office that welcomes with new incoming and prospective students and their families to the JWU Denver Campus. Health Services offers basic medical services and counseling for students. This also includes mental health assessments, management of medical records, referrals, brief counseling, and immunization compliance. A registered nurse is available daily to help with minor injuries, illnesses and triage. A Physician Assistant is available Monday through Thursday by appointment. A full-time and part-time counselor is also available Monday through Friday and there is no charge to be seen by the counselor, nurse or PA. Please call to schedule an appointment. Media and Communication Studies is a new major coming to JWU Denver this upcoming Fall! This major focuses on building a strong foundation in both the theoretical and practical study of media, with an emphasis on new digital media and cutting-edge technology. The curriculum is focused on the study of contemporary media industries. Students will be able to analyze, interpret, and evaluate relationships between the media industries and the texts that they produce, as well as the context of media in the broader social world. Students will work with a range of media formats, focusing less on old-school technology such as radio and film, and more on new digital media like television advertising, social media, and up-to-date news broadcasting. Johnson & Wales is committed to providing students with professional, real-world career experience. Upon arriving at JWU students will immediately begin building a professional portfolio that will prepare them for the media internship they will obtain during their third year. This internship will be the gateway to countless networking and career opportunities to pursue upon graduating! There are three exciting tracks to choose from within this major: 1. Media Writing, Publication and Communication 2. Digital Media Design and Communication 3. Advertising, Public Relations and Marketing The job titles in the media and communications industry are as varied as the industries themselves. Green Jeans is a one-woman operation in lovely Denver Colorado making fun and functional bags, purses, and totes from recycled clothes! Every year I rescue hundreds of pants and jeans from the trash heap and use donated and scavenged fabrics to make colorful and exciting designs. Recently this reuse has grown to create petite pincushions from scrap fabrics. I also have a line of bright and beautiful yarns. Starting with raw fleeces purchased from local ranchers the fibers and hand processed, hand dyed and hand-spun to make fabulous yarns perfect for all sorts of crafts - crochet, knitting, weaving and felting!
