Portland's Centers for the Arts, formerly known as the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, is an organization within Metro that runs venues for live theatre, concerts, cinema, small conferences, and similar events in Portland, Oregon, United States.Established in 1987, the PCPA consists of three separate buildings: the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Antoinette Hatfield Hall, and Keller Auditorium.Hatfield Hall itself is sometimes erroneously referred to as the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. PCPA is the fifth-largest center for performing arts in the United States, with more than 1,000 performances and one million patrons annually .PCPA changed its name to "Portland'5 Centers for the Arts" in 2013. The "5" in the brand name is intended to highlight that the organization has five venues, counting separately the three theaters that occupy Antoinette Hatfield Hall.
Oregon's only student run cinema has been operating non-profit since 1989. Our goals are to provide further education for PSU students interested in film, as well as a fun place for people to see something they wouldn’t ordinarily get to see on the big screen. The general public is always invited to attend and there is FREE popcorn at every show. Our feature films are never digital and are presented on 35mm film, with the occasional screening on our rare Norelco 16mm projector. Admission is FREE for PSU students & faculty w/ID. $3 for all other students & seniors. $4 General Admission. Plus FREE POPCORN AT EVERY SHOW for all.
The Northwest Film Center is a place where individuals find and cultivate their personal voices as storytellers and image makers, and audiences explore our region and the world through the big screen. Our theater, classrooms and facilities welcome a diverse cross-section of community members for film appreciation, skill- and community-building and technical support. Established in 1971, the Northwest Film Center is a regional media arts resource and service organization founded to encourage the study, appreciation, and utilization of the moving image arts, foster their artistic and professional excellence, and to help create a climate in which they may flourish. The Center provides a variety of film and video exhibition, education, and information programs primarily directed to the residents of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. FILMS The Film Center conducts an active year-round exhibition program of foreign, classic, experimental, and independent works that showcase a wide array of regional, national, and international cinema and video art. Thematic series, special retrospectives, and visiting artist programs highlight major contributions to the art form. Annual film festivals include: - Northwest Filmmakers' Festival (November), a juried showcase of new work by regional artists, including Fresh Film NW youth-made films - Portland International Film Festival (February), an invitational survey of new world cinema - Reel Music Festival (January), exploring the lively interplay between sound and image, music and culture - Global Classroom brings the best in new world cinema to high school classes through free screenings. CLASSES & WORKSHOPS The Northwest Film Center’s education programs provide learning opportunities and to working filmmakers, aspiring video storytellers, creatives and youth 4th-12th grade through classes, workshops, studios and camps. The Film Center's programming in filmmaking, video production, animation, and screenwriting and more serves makers who wish to develop their personal vision as a film artist, offering classes and workshops that emphasize media aesthetics in a hands-on context. Film Center faculty are working artists who devote a portion of their professional lives to teaching. FILMMAKER SERVICES The Northwest Film Center serves as a hub for filmmakers around the greater Portland, OR area and across the region. Through - circulates traveling exhibition programs featuring work by regional artists to other arts presenters throughout the Northwest - administers the Media Arts Fellowship - serves as a fiscal agent for independent producers in need of non-profit sponsorship - offers low-cost equipment access to community producers, as well as a variety of consulting services In partnership with local arts councils and other arts, education and industry partners, the Center works to develop media arts audiences and opportunities for artists and organizations.
Hippodrome is a video production company based out of Portland, Oregon. We specialize in creating high quality commercials, promotional videos, narratives, documentaries, and music videos intended for broadcast and web delivery. Her expertise ranges from producing music videos, documentaries, and corporate videos while overseeing and facilitating the artistic vision necessary in bringing a project to life. Blue Sky Gallery is a non-profit "exhibition and explication space", "community research center", and archive for contemporary photography in Portland, Oregon. It grew to become a "preeminent West Coast venue where emerging photographers with 21st-century technologies." A non-profit space dedicated to public education, Blue Sky Gallery began by showing local artists and then slowly expanded to national and international artists. It "has introduced more than 700 emerging and established photographers to the region" and has been an early supporter of now-notable photographers such as John Divola, Robert Frank, Nan Goldin, Mark Klett, and Larry Sultan, among others.HistoryIn 1975 a group of five young photographers pooled their resources to start a small gallery.In 2007 Blue Sky raised $2.7 million and moved into the former North Park Blocks store and warehouse of Daisy Kingdom, In July 2008 they exhibited the last completed works by Robert Rauschenberg.
