The 716th Military Police Battalion is the most decorated Military Police Battalion in the United States Army and has provided continuous distinguished service to the nation since its activation on 15 January 1942. The 716th was initially stationed at Fort Wadsworth, New York City, to provide area security. Following World War II, it moved to Fort Dix, New Jersey, with a mission to provide Military Police support to Headquarters, 1st Army. The battalion also assisted in processing hundreds of displaced Hungarian refugees in support of Operation Mercy. In September of 1962, the 716th safeguarded the rights of black students during the desegregation of the University of Mississippi. In 1965, the 716th deployed to support the growing war in Vietnam. It earned the respect and admiration of America for its tenacious defense of the United States Embassy in Saigon during the Tet Offensive. For its valorous efforts, the battalion was awarded the Army Presidential Unit Citation and earned the motto “Saigon Warriors!” To date, it is the Army’s only Military Police Battalion to be bestowed the Nation’s highest unit honor. In March of 1973, the 716th redeployed to Fort Riley, Kansas, and began its 24-year association with the 1st Infantry Division, the “Big Red One.” The battalion deployed to Operation Desert Shield in October of 1990, and during Operation Desert Storm supported VII Corps, XVIII Airborne Corps, 22nd COSCOM, and the 1st Infantry Division. In early 1994, the 716th deployed to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba, in support of JTF-160 Operation Sea Signal. During the peak of the mission, the battalion provided command and control of nine Military Police Companies and 12 Cuban Refugee Camps totaling 32,000 Cuban and Haitian Refugees. In September of 1994, the 101st Military Police Company (Air Assault), one of the battalion’s future companies, deployed in support of XVIII Corps and JTF - 180 to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. The company played a major role in restoring the rightfully elected but deposed government to power and creating a safe, secure and stable environment for the country’s people. For its efforts, the company earned the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. In June of 1996, the 716th was reassigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, beginning a long and storied association with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Concurrently, the Fort Campbell Law Enforcement Command “Eagle Standards” cased its battalion colors and became a part of the 716th. The battalion assumed command and control of the 101st (Air Assault), 194th, and 551st Military Police companies. In 2001, the 716th, the 551st and two platoons of the 101st MP Company (Air Assault), deployed to Kosovo in support of Task Force Falcon, 3A. Additionally, as part of the Army’s Transformation, the battalion changed it's motto from “Saigon Warriors” to “Peacekeepers.” In early 2002, the 716th deployed the 194th and 3rd platoon of the 101st (Air Assault) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where both units served with distinction in Afghanistan and earned the Army’s Meritorious Unit Commendation. In September of 2002, the 551st deployed to Djibouti, Africa, to provide force protection for units of the Special Operations Command. Because of the immense operational need, the company deployed from Africa to Iraq via fast sealift ship, where it served with distinction and earned the Army’s Meritorious Unit Commendation. In March of 2003, the 716th deployed to Kuwait in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” The 101st Military Police Company (Air Assault) also deployed under the control of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). During the deployment, the battalion was awarded the Naval Presidential Unit Citation for its actions in support of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and the Army’s Meritorious Unit Commendation. Additionally, the Soldiers of the battalion were awarded 23 Bronze Stars for Valor, 45 Bronze Stars for service, 31 Army Commendation Medals for Valor, and 27 Purple Hearts, four of which were awarded posthumously. In March of 2004, the 716th redeployed to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Under Army Transformation, 12 August 2004 marked the inactivation of the 101st Military Police Company (Air Assault) and the activation of the 561st Military Police Company. In December 2005, the 716th deployed to Afghanistan is support of “Operation Enduring Freedom.” The battalion served as the ground maneuver, base and airfield command for Shindand Army Airfield and the surrounding area of operations. Upon transfer of Shindand to NATO control, the battalion relocated to Bagram Airfield where it assumed responsibility for operation of the Base Defense Operation Center, perimeter security, access control, area security and theater response forces earning the Army’s Meritorious Unit Commendation. In December 2007, the 716th deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09, where the “Peacekeepers” provided command and control of eight MP companies and one U.S. Air Force Security Forces Squadron. During the 15-month deployment, the battalion significantly advanced the operational readiness of the Iraqi Police in the Karkh Directorate of Western Baghdad, with the rotation culminating with the highly successful Iraq Provincial Elections. From early 2009 until mid 2010, the 218th and 551st Military Police Companies were deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The HHD and 561st Military Police company assumed the CBRNE Consequence Management Response Force (CCMRF) mission that successfully ended on 30 September 2010. In early 2011, the 194th Military Police Company deployed to Ramadi in support of Operation New Dawn. The 561st Military Police Company deployed to Kandahar in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In early 2012, the 716th headquarters deployed once again to Afghanistan, this time to mentor and develop the 202d Afghan Uniformed Police Zone Headquarters. The HHD redeployed to Fort Campbell in December 2012.

Our Mission is Caring - Army Child, Youth & School programs exist to support military readiness by reducing the conflict between a Soldier's mission requirements and his or her parental responsibilities. Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services) is an integral part of the Army mission. CYS Services supports the Soldier which in turn enhances Army readiness. In other words, a Soldier can concentrate on his/her mission knowing that their children and youth are safe and supervised by trained and professional staff members while participating in quality developmental programs. The Army Soldier's work day is unique due to irregular or extended duty hours, deployments and temporary duty assignments. The challenges for care continue to grow as mission requirements demand more of the modern day Soldier. Child, Youth & School Services programs are a direct mission-related necessity to an Army that is 53 percent married; with an additional 7.5 percent who are single parents. Commanders, as well as their Soldiers and Families, consider Army child care and youth programs to be an important quality of life and well-being issue.

BATTALION HISTORY: With the end of World War II the U.S. Army no longer needed a large standing army and both the 101st Airborne Division and the 81st Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Tank Battalion were inactivated. For its contributions and sacrifices in the European Theatre of Operations, the Battalion earned two Presidential Unit Citations, the French Croix d’ Guerre, two Belgian Croix d’ Guerre, the Belgian Fourragere, and the Netherlands Orange Lanyard. During the past 60 years, 2-44 ADA has undergone numerous designation changes living up to its motto ”Per Ardua”, or “Through Difficulty”. The 1960s and 1970s proved especially difficult as the U.S. Army developed its SHORAD program. 1971 saw 5th Battalion, 562nd Air Defense Artillery briefly activated at Fort Campbell as a provisional unit until 1-3 ADA could complete its training. On December 4th, 1972, the 1st Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery was activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and joined the “Screaming Eagle” team. 1-3 ADA, originally formed in 1798, remains one of the oldest units to ever serve on Fort Campbell bringing with it 43 campaign streamers dating back to the War of 1812. The new Battalion was organized into platoons mixed with both Redeye missiles and towed Vulcan air defense guns. These platoons, nicknamed “Strike Platoons”, added a tremendous low-level air defense capability to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). It is from these “Strike Platoons” that the Battalion derives its current “Strike Fear” nickname. By 1983, the older Redeye missile was replaced with the highly effective and lethal Stinger missile system. On March 16th, 1988, the 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery was activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The Battalion would not have to wait long for its first baptism of fire. In 1991, during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Charlie Battery participated in the largest and deepest Air Assault operation at the time in support of the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Always adapting to new situations and new technical advances, 2-44 ADA retired its trusty, but outdated, Vulcan systems in 1993 in order to field the much more effective Avenger system. 1995 saw the activation of a fourth firing battery, D/2-44 ADA, to provide air defense coverage in a general support role. In 2003, the unit continued its “Rendezvous with Destiny”, returning to the region to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and providing SHORAD coverage during the combat phase of operations. The battalion also secured critical bridges and road junctions during ground combat in Najaf, Karbala, and Al Hillah. In meeting diverse mission requirements throughout the region, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, secured the 4th Infantry Division’s (Mechanized) ground routes through Baghdad using a series of well positioned and heavily armored Traffic Control Points. Strike Fear troopers maintained the route to perfection and significantly aided the 4th Infantry Division as it moved through a potentially hostile, major metropolitan area of several million civilians. Furthermore, during Stability and Support Operations, the battalion was responsible for training 4,500 Iraqi Civil Defense Corps soldiers while performing thousands of convoy escorts and community projects to help rebuild Iraq. On 16 September 2004, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery was formally relieved from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and assigned to the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade (Airborne) in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. With Avengers and Sentinel Radars as the battalion’s primary weapon systems, the battalion continued to provide United States forces with the most lethal and sophisticated Short Range Air Defense assets in the world. In April 2008, 2d Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment once again deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09, this time providing air defense against enemy rockets, artillery and mortar (RAM). Although not its primary weapon system, the battalion quickly transitioned to employing the Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar weapons systems and intercepted multiple RAM munitions to ensure the safety of Soldiers and civilians throughout the greater Baghdad metropolitan area. In April 2010, 2d Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery received a short notice FORSCOM order to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. . Once again, the battalion quickly transitioned, transformed and trained for its next “Rendezvous with Destiny” where it performed a non-standard Air Defense Artillery mission. This time, 2-44 ADA deployed to 37 locations throughout all six regional commands in Afghanistan to train and advise the Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army. During this deployment, Strike Fear Soldiers trained over 30,000 Afghan National Security Forces, and successfully issued over $1.5 Billion worth of uniforms, weapons, fuel, and tactical vehicles to the Afghan National Security Forces. In addition, the battalion contributed immeasurably to the development of the Afghan Civil Order Police HQ and the Afghan Medical and Logistics Commands. Like our proud lineage, the Soldiers and Leaders of “the Strike Fear battalion” are adaptive, flexible and stand committed to the Nation’s call. 2-44 ADA re-refined the expectations of the mentor and advisory mission and enabled NTM-A to significantly advance its strategic goals.

Here at Fort Campbell we treat transition as a 3 step process. The first step is to attend a mandatory pre-separation briefing as well as the Transition Overview and MOS Crosswalk class, DOL Employment Workshop, VA Benefits Brief part 1 and 2, and Financial Planning. The second step is working one-on-one with your SFL-TAP counselor on the resume and your Individual Transition Plan in order to put your employment plan in to action! Finally, the third step is to take advantage of Enrichment Seminars, Employer Event Days, and Job fairs. SFL-TAP is more than pre-separation counseling. Through SFL-TAP you can schedule a Department of Labor workshop where you’ll learn how to conduct a successful job search. You’ll find our SFL-TAP Center is an excellent place to go for employment assistance and support for your job search. In September of 2002, the 551st deployed to Djibouti, Africa, to provide force protection for units of the Special Operations Command.
