The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is an American public research university located in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada. The 332acre campus is located approximately 1.6mi east of the Las Vegas Strip. The university includes the Shadow Lane Campus, located just east of the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, which houses the School of Dental Medicine— the only dental school in the state of Nevada. In addition, UNLV's law school, the William Boyd School of Law, is also the only law school in the state.Noted for its strong emphasis on science and technology, business management, and the law programs, the university is classified a "research-intensive university" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The William Harrah College of Hotel Administration is annually ranked among the top hospitality programs in the United States due to the university's proximity to the Las Vegas Strip. Its famed Thomas & Mack Center hosted the 2007 NBA All-Star Game, concerts, as well as lectures by Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev as part of various UNLV-affiliated lecture series.
Spurred by the vision of William D. Carlson, the first dean of Nevada Southern, the School of Education was established in 1957. A decade later it became the College of Education under Founding Dean Anthony Saville, offering programs in elementary, secondary, and vocational education and administration. In 1964, the first graduating class of 25 received bachelor's degrees; three years later, nine students received the first master's degrees; and in 1977, five students received doctoral degrees. By 1981, the college had received full accreditation from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. The college moved into its own building, later named for Carlson, in 1972.

What: The Baby and Child Rebel Lab needs infants and children for our ongoing research projects. Why: Our lab examines how infants and children understand the world around them. To test this with infants, we record how long they look at different types of faces so we can understand how people start making sense of their social world. To test this with children, we show them faces, ask them questions, or have them complete computerized task to find out their perceptions of others. Our research is safe and simple for our participants. Families come to our lab, and each appointment usually takes about 45 min including explanations and all paperwork. Infants sit on a caregivers’ lap or in a car seat with the caregiver seated behind them while we record their looking behavior. We will show them pictures of different kinds of people to see which pictures they look at longer. After the study, the infant receives a bib or a t-shirt for participating. Our child studies are all a little different and depend on your child’s age. Like our infant research, they are all safe and simple for the child, and we can give more details based on your child’s age. When each study is over, we mail letters to update families on our results. Who: We are conducting studies for children aged 2 months and older. Please call for more details and to find out which studies your child is eligible to participate in. Most studies only require one visit, but as your child ages we would love for you to come back in for additional studies if you are available. For our study with 2-month-olds, the caregiver is eligible for a $20 gift card to Target if they come to the lab for all 3 appointments over the course of a month. We welcome all members of the community to participate in our research, and we have Spanish-speaking research assistants available. When: Our lab is open Monday to Saturday from 9:15 am until at least 5 pm. We will do our best to work around your schedule. Where: Our lab is located on campus of UNLV near the Lied Library in HWB 122. We will send you a map after we make the appointment. We have a parking spot in front of our building, and we will wait for you outside to show you where to park. We have weekly discussion meetings during the fall and spring semesters on Tuesday nights at 7pm in room 205 of the UNLV Student Union. We also do community service events and organize speakers to give informative and/or entertaining presentations to the public. We are open to all members of the UNLV community that are also interested in building a sense of community among secular students.
