Founded in 1991, the African American Cultural Center (AACC) at UIC supports the academic and diversity missions of the University by engaging campus and community partners in innovative cultural, social and scholarly activities that examine African-American and African-Diasporan identities, traditions and creative practices through a social justice lens. The AACC recognizes that identities are socially constructed and intersectional. To that end, the Center especially supports programs and initiatives that promote collaboration and experiential learning. http://www.youtube.com/user/AACCUIC http://uicaacc.tumblr.com/

Wise Owl Drinkery and Cookhouse is a cozy urban establishment with late 1890's architecture infused with today's modern luxuries. Wise Owl is not just your typical bar in the Near West Side, but rather a unique contemporary American fare, craft cocktail, and local brew bistro, combined to bring you an unforgettable experience. Wise Owl is where cocktails and cuisine combine for a perfect evening of entertainment. With the evolution of the cocktail culture blowing through Chicago, lead bartender and mixologist Benjamin Tozser was brought in to spearhead Wise Owl’s creative beverage program. Our vast cocktail menu ranges from traditional cocktails to an assortment of eclectic and refined house cocktails for those who are looking to try something new. As homage to the great city of Chicago, we have primarily selected local craft brews and locally-distilled spirits as well. Our carefully selected wine menu is designed to pair with individual courses, but is outstanding enjoyed without food as well. Our food is made in-house and from scratch. Executive Chef Mark Hill (formerly of David Burke's Primehouse) uses fresh and local ingredients whenever possible to bring you a satisfying dining experience. Our menu features classic comfort food from America and around the globe, made with extra care and a few twists on tradition. We make our own wing sauces and fry them to order. We house cure and smoke our own salmon and make it into sliders. We make our own sausage and put it on a hand-tossed pizza. And did someone say Rumchata cookies? We make those too. If it’s sports you’re looking for then look no further. Located just minutes from the Madhouse on Madison, Wise Owl provides an optimal location for Blackhawks and Bulls fans to tailgate before and after each game. As for viewing the games, Wise Owl dedicates itself to providing the perfect atmosphere for all local, national and world-wide sporting events. With our 150-inch projector and multiple flat-screens, Wise Owl assures you’ll catch all the action from virtually any seat in the house. For those who are driving to the United Center, we offer parking for more than 30 cars as well as a complimentary shuttle service for all of our patrons to all home games (shuttle service begins fall 2015). Wise Owl is also just a matter of steps away from the Racine/Blue Line stop and the Racine exit at I-290. Stop in this West Loop saloon for a cold beer and a Southern-tinged eats. A fieldstone-lined fireplace, wood-paneled walls and tables fashioned from whiskey barrels all give a healthy nod toward the bar's country roots. It's named after The Legend of the CrossRoads, which tells the story of a Mississippi Delta blues man who sells his soul at midnight; in fact, you'll find the scene depicted in a mural behind the bar. Take over the boxcar lounge for your private party or event. Going to see the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks or another United Center event? Take the FREE shuttle to/from the venue!
The 2nd Lucky's Sandwich Co. to open in Chicago (St. Paddy's Day, 2011), Lucky's on Maxwell St. is smack in the middle of the action in University Village. Located one block east of Halsted St. we offer the same food menu as our Wrigleyville and Wicker Park locations and have a full bar for you to enjoy as well. We are Chicago's home of the overstuffed sandwich. First, we take an oversized Italian loaf of bread (baked special for us) and slice it into thick slices. Then choose your favorite sandwich meats and cheeses, which we heat up and top with our home cut French fries, our signature vinaigrette coleslaw and fresh tomatoes. Next, top with another slice of bread and voila! You have the biggest, tastiest sandwich in town! If you think you have the guts, try the Lucky's challenge and make our wall of fame. You just have to polish off 3 sandwiches in 1 hour! With a laid-back ambience to enjoy, unique food to munch on, great drink specials, and a very friendly staff to make any and everybody feel welcome, we invite you to come out for a visit. See you there!
