Fiesta Oyster Bake, an official Fiesta San Antonio event sponsored by the St. Mary’s University Alumni Association, is a food and entertainment festival which utilizes 7,000 plus volunteers and attracts more than 60,000 patrons to raise money for St. Mary’s University student scholarships and university and alumni programs.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. The values of the American Legion are encapsulated in the Preamble to its Constitution: "For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a 100-percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the great wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness."
Our Current Projects include: 1. Organization and cataloging of the SAISD TJHS Library Archive. 2. Holding educational and informational sessions for alumni at reunions, neighborhood meetings in order to promote pride and an interest in our mission. 3. Restoration of the Student Council Patio Octagonal Fountain. There is much more to do in the future because there is so much beauty and history that needs to be preserved and conserved on the TJHS campus. Our Historical Society is here to maintain it for many generations to come. YOU CAN HELP!! Family Endeavors, Inc. is a private non-profit agency founded in 1969 to meet the most pressing needs of the San Antonio community. Today, Family Endeavors serves 15,000 people each year from 21 locations in 6 states to meet the full range of needs of each local community. Family Endeavors programs target homelessness, unemployment, child abuse, foster care, disabilities, childcare, education, disasters, independent living, and counseling. Programs Include: Fairweather Housing Programs: Permanent supportive housing, job training, employment, case management, and supportive services provided to individuals and mothers with disabilities and their children. Veteran Services: Homeless prevention, rapid re-housing financial assistance and case management services to increase the self-sufficiency of Veterans and their families. Community Based Services: Homeless Prevention, Job Training, Crisis Intervention, and Case Management for children, families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Emergency Services: Certified and Professional Case Managers, Childcare Staff and Shelter Support Staff provide emergency services and support to families and children in emergency situations and shelters due to catastrophic events and/or evacuation. Children & Youth Services: Licensed After School programs and a Childcare & Learning Center provided to approximately 500 children each year. Endeavors Unlimited: Landscaping, Custodial and Supply Chain Management Company that supports, trains, and employs adults with significant disabilities. 2014 will be the 7th Annual "On and Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour." Organized by Bihl Haus Arts, this self-guided tour covers the seven neighborhoods bordering Fredericksburg Road between Vance Jackson and Culebra. It features two full days of open studios that offer visitors the rare opportunity to interact with local artists in their work spaces. Artists' work is also showcased in participating galleries and businesses in the community.

San Antonio OASIS opened in 1991 as a chapter of the OASIS Institute, a national non-profit organization dedicated to its mission of enriching the lives of adults age 50 and over by offering challenging programs in the areas of health, the arts and humanities, technology and volunteer service opportunities. OASIS creates opportunities for older adults to continue their personal growth and provide meaningful service to their communities.
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice is deeply committed to advocating for traditionally underrepresented groups. Thus, The Scholar furthers legal discourse on race, ethnicity, gender, age, class, sexual identity, and religion. Accordingly, we publish pieces focusing on legal issues of concern to historically disempowered groups. Members of The Scholar take an active role in bringing awareness to historically disempowered groups by helping those in need in our immediate community. Each member of The Scholar participates in two community outreach events per semester. So, not only are students bringing a “voice to the voiceless” through legal research and writing, members of The Scholar bring food to the hungry, homes to the homeless, and hope to the hopeless. The work of The Scholar is intended to be transformative. It is our hope the articles we publish will educate, inform, and enlighten those tackling tough issues in our society.
Jefferson Outreach is a non-profit in San Antonio, Texas supported entirely by donations from churches, individuals, foundations and grants. We have a small paid staff and many volunteers, who are church and community neighbors, dedicated to the betterment of seniors quality of life through services that help them remain at home, rather than having to relocate to an institution.
