The College of Technology inspires innovation and uniquely prepares industry leaders with broad engineering and technical knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork, and computing skills. The college offers accredited bachelor's and master's degrees in wide-ranging disciplines from engineering technologies and biotechnology to construction management, consumer sciences, digital media, and human resource development. It also offers opportunities for upgrading professional skills and qualifications in many specializations such as Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, logistics, information systems security and project management. A strong partnership with industry provides students the experience of addressing real world issues. College of Technology students learn by participating in discovery, and working in teams on real-world projects to gain hands-on, practical learning experience and put theory into practice.
The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering, established in 1941, is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Almost 4,500 students are enrolled in engineering courses—3,291 undergraduates as well as 1,206 masters and doctoral students in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, geosensing systems, industrial, mechanical and petroleum engineering. The college also offers interdisciplinary graduate programs in subsea, aerospace, materials, and computer and systems engineering. Chemical and mechanical engineering have ranked among the top programs nationally.

The University of Houston is a state research university and the flagship institution of the University of Houston System. Founded in 1927, UH is the university in Texas with nearly 43,000 students. Its campus spans 667 acres in southeast Houston, and was known as University of Houston–University Park from 1983 to 1991. The Carnegie Foundation classifies UH as a doctoral degree-granting institution with "highest research activity." The U.S. News & World Report ranks the university No. 194 in its National University Rankings, and No. 103 among top public universities. The university's varsity athletic teams, known as the Houston Cougars, are members of the American Athletic Conference and compete in the NCAA Division I in all sports. The football team regularly makes bowl game appearances, and the men's basketball team has made 19 appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament—including five Final Four appearances. The men's golf team has won 16 national championships—the most in NCAA history.
