CenterPoint Energy Plaza is a 741ft tall building in downtown Houston. The original building, finished in 1974, stood at, but a 90ft extension was added as part of a 1996 renovation. Designed by Richard Keating, this renovation dramatically changed the building, the Houston Skyline and the downtown. Keating was also the designer of the nearby Wells Fargo Tower. It has the headquarters of CenterPoint Energy.Historically the building housed the headquarters of Houston Industries and subsidiary Houston Lighting & Power . In 1999 Houston Industries changed its name to Reliant Energy. When Reliant Energy moved out of the building and moved into the new Reliant Energy Plaza in 2003, the company left over 400000sqft of space vacant.Around 1995 the building owners added a circle-shaped canopy that is five stories tall. Clifford Pugh of the Houston Chronicle wrote that "It was meant to resemble a lantern, but at night the lit open space looks more like a hovering spaceship."

To improve quality of life by increasing local community support to the military community. Effectively advocates on behalf of veterans and their families, and assists them in obtaining veteran services and benefits. Provide counseling to veterans and the families of veterans. Assist veterans and returning service members by connecting them with services and benefits at Federal, State and City agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. Support the Harris County Veterans Services Office in their mission to assist veterans and their dependents with applications for compensation, pensions, hospitalization and other benefits. Develop a comprehensive strategy, involving partnerships with other government agencies and non-profit organizations, to enhance access, coordination and delivery of health and human services to veterans, military personnel and their families throughout the City. Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on events, projects and issues of interest to the serving military, veterans, and their families. The MCAO was created in 1974 by then Mayor Fred Hofheinz. The MCAO was one of the original projects funded by the Federal Community Development Act of 1974, and was set-up as a division within the Mayor’s Office. It was originally referred to as the Mayor’s Citizens’ Action Office. Over the past few decades, the MCAO has changed its name but remains focused on its original mission: community assistance and constituent services. Today, in its 35th year, the MCAO continues to assist the with the Mayor's chartered duties of directing and monitoring the efficient and responsive delivery of city services, responding to information and service inquiries, providing constituent services, and improving the quality of life for the citizens of Houston.
