Our mission is to bring the Bay Area music scene to the world by championing emerging and underground artists, partnering with local venues and festivals, sponsoring cool showcases and events, and reaching out and helping however we can. Our studio is located inside of The Secret Alley, a unique workspace that provides local San Francisco artists a place to collaborate, palaver, scheme and dream.
With partners in Amsterdam, San Francisco, South Africa and England, the Funny How Films team aims to create unique and highly entertaining films on modest budgets and short production cycles while working in collaboration with international co-production partners. Popgun was formed in San Francisco, California in 1999, fueled by an appetite for all things pop culture and a passion for design. We bring years of multidisciplinary expertise to each challenge, including advertising, branding, marketing and corporate design. Popgun has developed winning brands across a spectrum of clients, from entertainment-industry giants to breakout start-ups. We continue to expand our capabilities and territory with the opening of our new Los Angeles office in July 2008. However, even as Popgun grows, we remain committed to giving every client close personal attention and the best of our resources. We are Video Free America, a dynamic, hands-on facility staffed by award-winning producers, directors and support personnel. Sure, we have the latest production hardware, sure, our programs win big awards. And yes, the New York Times and Variety have given us rave reviews. But it isn’t hype that got us this attention. It’s creative professionals dedicated to the content, concept and attention to detail you need to get the most out of production and post. Video Free America was founded in 1970 by videographer Skip Sweeney, as a place of artistic foment dedicated to pioneering the new genre called “video art.” This new form of expression forged an exciting dialogue with artists around the country, and his timely collaborations with San Francisco’s National Center for Experiments in Television and PBS affiliate KQED-TV. For over thirty years, Video Free America has excelled at innovation. Besides its award-winning television and corporate communications programs, the studio leads with such diverse projects as Skip Sweeney’s interactive video/performance production co-developed with actor and clown Bill Irwin for Seattle Repertory and performed on Broadway —or new media like “Psychic Detective,” an interactive movie developed with director John Sanborn. Video Free America personnel have produced, shot and edited hundreds of documentaries, travelogues, children’s features, dance and art performances creating programs for PBS and international broadcast. Commercial productions include TV spots, music video promotions, Public Service Announcements, safety and training tapes, digital entertainment and dynamic new media.
Our name, GroundSpark, communicates the initiative, energy, activism, and vibrant personality of our organization and what we set out to accomplish. It reflects our commitment to fundamental change, our partnerships with communities, and the tremendous momentum set in motion by our campaigns. Working closely with educators, activists, national and local organizations, we ensure that our films are used to inspire meaningful social change. Much of this work focuses on creating schools and communities that are safe and welcoming for all children. GroundSpark’s landmark program, The Respect For All Project, seeks to do just that. The Respect For All Project provides youth and the adults who guide their development the tools they need to engage in age-appropriate discussions about human difference, preventing prejudice and building caring communities. The project offers a comprehensive set of resources for educators and youth-service providers, including award-winning documentary films, high-quality curriculum guides, and a comprehensive workshop series for professionals and community members. Magic Teleprompting, Inc's founder, Japji Khalsa, has been working in the film and video business since before there were answering machines. In 1984, Japji began the transition from a freelancer as grip/sound/stage manger to full time teleprompting operator and rental house. He founded Magic Teleprompting, Inc. in 1989, the first teleprompting company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not content to simply provide great service, Japji set on a course to create great software to provide that service. MagicScroll for Macintosh, released in 1994, provides powerful, yet, easy-to-use prompting on the Mac platform. From version 1, to the current Version 5 for OSX, MagicScroll just keeps getting better with features fine-tuned over nearly 20 years. Over the course of serving the Bay Area film, video and stage community, Magic has prompted US Presidents, Olympic Champions, rock stars and many of the Icons of Silicon Valley.
