The history of Union labor in St. Louis is storied and can be displayed in the many structures dotting the banks of the mighty Mississippi. From the Gateway Arch to Union Station, organized labor has contributed to the development and bravado of our community for a majority of the 20th century. As the 21st century dawns, the next generations of these laborers continue to develop downtown and midtown with the goal of further extending the appeal and beauty of St. Louis to residents and visitors alike. America’s Tavern at the Union House honors this commitment to excellence and prides itself on serving the Union and construction workers of this city. As the city grows in the future, we will support and serve those who make this growth possible.

Gaslight

Gaslight Lounge is a new, unique venue focused on music and art in St. Louis. Gaslight Lounge is the first of its kind—a space that will provide music lovers with “behind-the-scenes” access to the creative process of audio and visual documentation of musical performance. The venue (located at 4916 Shaw Ave., St. Louis, on The Hill) will house a recording studio, a bar and lounge area, and a walk-up food counter from the popular Cha Cha Chow food truck. Patrons of Gaslight will be able to view and listen to a musical performance as it is being recorded in a professional studio setting. A floor-to-ceiling window on one wall of the performance area/studio will allow unlimited visibility of the recording process. The building will also be outfitted with cutting-edge audio and visual equipment to provide a live feed to the action in the studio. The venue is now booking local, regional, and national artists to be among the first to experience Gaslight’s visionary approach to recording musical performances. Spots are also available for youth and high-school music groups and “rock schools” that want to document their songs and performances while parents and classmates take in the music. Gaslight Lounge is brimming with possibilities for musical and artistic expression and appreciation. And the grand opening in Fall 2015 is only the beginning of a musical experience that St. Louis—and rest of the world—has never had access to before.

Mama Josephine's

4000 Shaw Blvd
St. Louis, MO 63110

(314) 771-4001

Some visitors have commented that our hours seem a bit odd and that sometimes we are closed when they arrive. I'd like to explain so that our visitors understand why that sometimes occurs. Mama Josephine's is all about my mom. The restaurant is a tribute to her; a way of showing my love for her and sharing her wonderful recipes. It is a small place where hospitality is one of the spices we use in every dish. It is a small place though; too small to sustain a decent income for my staff if I were to draw any type of income from it. Because I am a research scientist and have other obligations at times, and occasionally my staff has to be out for some reason, the restaurant is closed during what for us would be normal business hours. We always put a message on the phone, post to FB, and on Nextdoor so that our visitors can be made aware when this occurs. I know it's a pain, but please understand. I want to share my mom's wonderful food and we make every effort to be there if at all possible, but sometimes it just can't happen. Thank you for your continued visits and for sharing your time with us. Happy Eating! Mary
