Washington University School of Medicine, located in St. Louis, Missouri, is the medical school of Washington University in St. Louis on the eastern border of Forest Park in St. Louis. Founded in 1891, the School of Medicine has 1,260 students, 604 of which are pursuing a medical degree with or without a combined Doctor of Philosophy or other advanced degree. It also offers doctorate degrees in biomedical research through the Division of Biology and Biological Sciences. The School has developed large physical therapy and occupational therapy programs, as well as the Program in Audiology and Communication Sciences which includes a Doctor of Audiology degree and a Master of Science in Deaf Education degree. There are 1,772 faculty, 1,022 residents, and 765 fellows.The clinical service is provided by Washington University Physicians, a comprehensive medical and surgical practice providing treatment in more than 75 medical specialties. The Washington University Bariatric Surgery Program offers a full range of surgical options to those meeting the criteria for weight loss surgery: a body mass index (BMI) indicating morbid obesity, appropriate age, attempted weight loss and other factors as determined by the surgeon. The program, offered in conjunction with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, is designated as an American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
On the third Thursday of every month, the Washington University Emergency Medicine attending physicians, faculty, residents, fellows, nurses and medical students meet at a local restaurant for journal club. During these three hour meetings the group, led by the Journal Club Director, critically analyze recent literature using Evidence Based Medicine principles: patient preferences, clinician expertise, and scientific findings each weighted equally.

We form teams of medical, engineering, and business students with mentorship from faculty, healthcare professionals, and local entrepreneurs in order to tackle unmet needs in healthcare delivery and clinical medicine. Sling Health STL provides technical, clinical, business, and legal mentorship, initial funding and facilities for prototypes, and legal support necessary for teams to thrive as budding companies.
