Led by businessman and avid golfer Bill Walters, Walters Golf is known in the national golf industry for developing first-class golf facilities. According to Executive Golfer, Walters is “Nevada’s leading golf entrepreneur” who “recognized the need for visitor and corporate friendly golf facilities and packages, and seized on the opportunity, investing millions in four magnificent properties.”
In Las Vegas, the company owns and operates Royal Links Golf Club, Desert Pines Golf Club and Bali Hai Golf Club in addition to Las Vegas Golf Getaways, Las Vegas Preferred Tee Times and Cili Restaurant.
Walters entered the golf industry in 1991 with the acquisition of Paradise Hills Country Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to its sale to National Golf Properties, it was recognized as the finest daily-fee golf facility in Albuquerque. His acquisition program continued with the purchase in 1994 of Mesa del Sol Country Club in Yuma, Arizona, which was followed by the purchase of the Golf Club of Illinois – generally considered one of the top five daily-fee golf courses in the Chicago area. In 1995, Walters completed the purchase of the Chicago area’s Eagle Brook Country Club, marking the company’s first venture into the private country club market. The following year, Walters Golf acquired the Burr Hill Club, which was renamed Blackhawk Golf Club, also in the Chicago area. These courses have all been sold after extensive improvements in course appearance, maintenance and operation.
Opening in late 1996, Desert Pines Golf Course in the heart of downtown Las Vegas represented the first golf facility developed and constructed by Walters Golf in a public-private partnership with the City of Las Vegas. The company acquired the Sunrise Country Club in 1997, renamed it Stallion Mountain Country Club, and created the Las Vegas area’s premier corporate outing facility and special events center. Walters Golf began construction of the Royal Links Golf Club in 1997, which immediately after opening in 1998 was named one of the Top 10 New Courses by Golf Magazine. In partnership with McCarran International Airport, the company developed the Bali Hai Golf Club on the Las Vegas Strip, which opened in 2000 to rave reviews, not only for the golf facility but also for the fine dining offered by Cili Restaurant.
