Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s mission is to offer diverse and affordable arts experiences for residents and visitors and to help cultivate the work of some of our community’s most outstanding producing and presenting performing arts groups. It offers two dynamic presentation styles: a 2,372-seat theater that can host major dance, theater and music performances; and a 200-seat black box theater in which both the audience and performers share the stage of the Auditorium which is adapted into an innovative studio theater for more intimate and often, cutting edge shows. The Auditorium is centrally located on NW 27th Avenue and Flagler Street, with free and convenient parking. History: Miami-Dade County Auditorium opened its doors in 1951. It has a splendid history as one of South Florida’s premiere performing arts center. Over the years it has hosted countless numbers of operas, symphonies, theater presentations, ballets, concerts, lectures, presidential candidates, graduations, naturalization services and a host of other programs of great community interest. This popular multipurpose theatre features Art Deco Revival décor. Recently renovated, this state of the art facility has for decades served as the center for showcasing the diversity of our cultural life and celebrating the Hispanic arts community. The operation of Miami-Dade County Auditorium was transferred to the Department of Cultural Affairs in January 2012; the Department has a track record and reputation for innovation and artistic excellence.
The 260th Military Intelligence Battalion (Linguist) is unique within the Total Force. It is part of an initiative to conserve perishable linguist and intelligence skills. Under the auspices of the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade, Utah Army National Guard, six Reserve Component Linguist units were formed throughout the Continental United States. The 260th Military Battalion (Linguist) was created in the Florida Army National Guard on October 1, 1988 as both intelligence and a linguist unit. The Battalion received its Federal Recognition at Miami, Florida on December 1, 1990. The Battalion Headquarters Detachment and Alpha Company are located in Miami, Florida. Bravo Company is located in Pinellas Park and the Charlie Detachment is located in Jacksonville. The 260th is not meant to be a maneuver unit at the battalion or company level. Instead, Counterintelligence, Interrogation and Linguist teams are designed to deploy separately in order to provide linguist and military intelligence assets to support other intelligence organizations and units under the Army’s concept of Tailoring Force. Both Alpha and Bravo companies consist of 16 five-man human intelligence teams. The Headquarters Company is designed to direct the training, logistics and administrative operations of the line units. Currently, the assigned languages of the battalion are Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Persian, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, and Russian. Soldiers within the battalion continue to use their linguist and intelligence skills to support different Federal, State and local agencies.
