De bouw zou uiteindelijk 1,5 miljard dollar kosten.De capaciteit van het stadion is 52.325 toeschouwers, waarvan 50.086 zitplaatsen. Het speelveld bestaat uit gras en gravel.In het openingsjaar van het nieuwe stadion (2009) wonnen de Yankees direct hun 27e World Series-titel door met 4-2 te winnen van de Philadelphia Phillies.Op 21 april 2014 werd bekendgemaakt dat New York City FC haar thuiswedstrijden zal spelen in het Yankee Stadium totdat het eigen stadion klaar is voor gebruik.
