Pastry chef ELISABETH PRUEITT and her husband, renowned baker CHAD ROBERTSON, are the co-owners of Tartine Bakery and Bar Tartine in San Francisco. They both trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Elisabeth and Chad traveled, trained, and cooked in France and upon their return, opened Bay Village Bakery in Point Reyes Station, California. Using a wood fired brick oven, they baked bread and created rustic, elegant pastries using many of the techniques they had learned abroad. Chad’s bread garnered the attention of Alain Ducasse, who wrote about the couple in his book, Harvesting Excellence. After 6 years of baking in the countryside, they relocated to San Francisco to open Tartine Bakery in 2002. Elisabeth was named Pastry Chef of the Year in San Francisco Magazine. Tartine Bakery is continually rated in the Zagat Survey as Best Bakery and Best Breakfast in San Francisco. Elisabeth and Chad were nominated for James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry Chefs in 2006 and 2007, and won the award in 2008. Their first book, ‘Tartine’, published by Chronicle Books, was chosen by Corby Kummer of the Atlantic Monthly in the New York Times list of selected top ten cookbooks of 2006. It was also nominated for a James Beard award for the photography of France Ruffenach. Tartine Bread, Chad’s second book, published by Chronicle Books is in current release: Fall 2010.

Chile Pies (sweet & savory) is a sister restaurant to Chile Pies (and ice cream), as well as Green Chile Kitchen, both located in the North Panhandle area of San Francisco. The pies offered at both Chile Pies locations are inspired by the butter-crust pies of the head baker's family. Green Chile Kitchen was opened in 2006. The owner spent many years in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The restaurant is inspired by red and green chile which is native to New Mexico, and the traditions and flavors from this region.
Established in 2011 Bonjour Patisserie creates eye catching and flavorful European style pastries. Specialized in individual pastries like mixed fruit tarts, éclairs, Napoleon, tiramisu, chocolate mousse cake, rose raspberry French macarons and princess cakes, just to name a few. Created by Pastry Chef Samer Salman, who comes from Jerusalem, has been making pastries since the age of 15. He started working at the well acclaimed 5 star King David Hotel in Jerusalem City and then moved to the La Rome Hotel before moving to the California. Rainbow Grocery Cooperative is a worker-owned and run food cooperative located in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1975, Rainbow Grocery is a member of NoBAWC and the United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives.HistoryAlthough it quickly became a secular project, Rainbow Grocery was started as a bulk food-buying program by an ashram that existed in San Francisco in the early 1970s. The buying program was coordinated by an ashram member who also worked for the People’s Common Operating Warehouse of San Francisco, a political project using food distribution as a form of community organizing and political education. The People’s Warehouse was striving to build a “People’s Food System,” including a network of small community food stores throughout San Francisco. Rainbow Grocery opened a storefront in the summer of 1975 on 16th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco. At this time, the People’s Food System already had two stores in San Francisco: Seeds of Life, in the lower Mission District, and Noe Valley Community Store. The ashram members who organized the opening of Rainbow Grocery did so largely by studying and copying the operations of the Noe Valley store. Rainbow Grocery opened with exclusively volunteer labor. After the first few months, there was enough income to pay the project’s two most active workers. As the store became increasingly successful, it was able to bring more workers on as paid staff, although people were generally not brought on to payroll until after several months of consistent volunteering. As the staff at Rainbow grew larger, the need for more defined organizational relationships also increased.
