At universities, we come from a multitude of exciting backgrounds, with a verity of unique ideas to share. TED Talks provide the opportunity for us to communicate our knowledge of the world through amazing presentations and inspiring stories. TEDx, or independently organized TED events, was started with the mission of "ideas worth spreading." All events are fully planned and coordinated on a community-by-community basis. This year we are bringing TED talks to SCU. TEDxSantaClaraUniversity will be a professional-grade production occurring on Tuesday May 10th, 2016 at Santa Clara’s Music Recital Hall. It will feature a mix of student and non-student speakers, with an array of topics that center upon this year’s theme: Paradigm Shifts: Thinking Outside the Box. Our speakers will give talks set to challenge the status quo and inspire unconventional thinking. This year we are bringing TED talks to SCU. One of the keys in any emergency is timely communication and SCU has a mass alert notification system called SCU Campus Alert. The SCU Campus Alert system allows Santa Clara University to send time-sensitive notifications to the SCU Community to those that have registered to receive them. SCU Campus Alert can store multiple telephone numbers and email addresses per participant; and when required, send simultaneous communications to all listed devices, including text messages to cellular devices. SCU Campus Alert is the primary means by which The Santa Clara University Campus and Jesuit School of Theology Campus will be notified in the event of an emergency that affects the campus and surrounding areas. Some examples of the types of information you might receive in an emergency: - Shelter in-place or evacuation order - Campus closure for any reason - Avoid a certain area of campus because of a localized emergency Many of these situations require rapid response and notification and SCU Campus Alert is the primary method to accomplish this. All SCU Faculty, Staff and Students should enroll. You must be enrolled in SCU Campus Alert to receive an emergency alert.
